Easter Sunday

This will be an Easter Sunday like no other in our lives – we will never forget it, so let’s make it as joyful and memorable and creative as we can! Here is what we will be doing and we hope you will join us:

Easter Morning “Sunrise Service”
Join people of all of Bainbridge Island’s Christian faith communities for a very short and very joyful “Sunrise Service” on Easter Morning! The sun is due to rise at 6:22am and we’re all invited to go outside and sing Jesus Christ is Risen Today (Hymnal #207) and then make the Easter Proclamation Alleluia, Christ is risen!   The Lord is risen indeed, Alleluia!
As Rev. Dee from Eagle Harbor Congregational Church (the one who invited us all to this “service”) said, we hope this simple practice will spark joy and solidarity in this difficult season in our world…

Easter Morning Worship Services

We will not be hosting an Easter morning service at St Barnabas and so we would like to invite you to join us at either the National Cathedral at 8:15am, with Presiding Bishop Curry preaching, or St Marks Cathedral in Seattle at 11am, with Dean Thomason preaching. Being the church nerds we are, we’ll probably be at both services.  Here is a link to my Easter sermon from last year if you’d like to hear it (and hear Deacon Dan proclaim the gospel!). You’ll need to scroll down to the bottom of the page. And I’ll be ringing the tower bells at 11:30 – you can ring your bells then too!

It has been quite the Holy Week in our household. As we always do, we’ve prayed each day for all of you, and for the life of the world. And having been with Jesus at that last supper with his friends, having sat at the foot of the cross (which life can surely feel like these days), we now come to the JOY of Easter Resurrection - which life can also feel like these days! There is so much of the beauty of life all around us and while it has been quite something not to be able to be with you in person, your lives are still lighting up our lives, your joys are still our joys. I miss you more than I can say and at the same time I am so grateful that you are in my world. Continue to be in touch! Email me just to say how you are. You’ve become no less treasures to me just because we don’t see each other…

Alleluia Christ is risen! These words are not just for Easter Sunday, they are for every day! We are resurrection people and we can live everyday that way. Beloveds, I pray that we will all live fully into this Easter season (we get 50 – yes 50 days!) as the resurrected people we are, reveling in hope and in joyful anticipation of the time we will be together again.

Sending love and all God’s blessings, Karen

1. Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia!
our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!
who did once, upon the cross, Alleluia!
suffer to redeem our loss, Alleluia!

2. Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!
unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia!
who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!
sinners to redeem and save, Alleluia!

3. But the pains which he endured, Alleluia!
our salvation have procured, Alleluia!
now above the sky he’s king, Alleluia!
where the angels ever sing, Alleluia!

4. Sing we to our God above, Alleluia!
praise eternal as his love, Alleluia!
praise him, all ye heavenly host, Alleluia!
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, Alleluia!
