Period Extended -

Dear Neighbor,

In observance of Good Friday, our office will close at 2 :00 PM today, April 14th,  and will re-open at 9:00 AM on Monday, April 16th.

If you have a need for city services, please call 311 for non-emergency requests, or dial 9-1-1 if you require immediate assistance.

Industrial Corridor Redevelopment Comments

43rd Ward residents and I share a  deep disappointment over the lack of required recreational space for sports in the draft  full framework plan  for the redevelopment of the North Branch Industrial Corridor .   The concern is magnified because the draft now proposes a base zoning of 3.0 Floor Area Ratio (as in local business areas) which could climb to 6.5 Floor Area ratio (high rises) without meaningful required recreational space to serve the burgeoning population in and around the former industrial corridor.

This sentiment is widespread and is being voiced at all the public meetings and in written feedback to the city and our office. Click here for sample feedback posted in last week's newsletter.

If you have not already done so, please share your feedback by emailing dpd@cityofchicago.org and copy me at yourvoice@ward43.org. All materials on the industrial corridor plan are posted on DPD's website Your online comments will be accepted until   Monday, May 1st   in advance of the Plan Commission vote on the Development framework on  Thursday, May 18th

On Tuesday, April 18th from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM residents can drop in at City Hall, 121 N LaSalle Street, Room 1003-A to give their comments in person. The final open house is on Tuesday, April 25th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at St. John Cantius Church, 825 N Carpenter Street.

Spring Yard Waste Collection

Citywide spring yard waste collection runs from Monday, April 17th, through Saturday, April 22nd, and residents may request a pick-up by calling 311.

Residents should bag yard waste and leave it next to the refuse and recycling carts in the alley or at the curb. A Department of Streets and Sanitation (DSS) truck will collect the bags based on 311 requests and take it to be composted.

As a reminder, yard waste should not be thrown into the blue recycling cart as it contaminates the recycling stream.
