BUILDING SELF WORTH IN TEENS - LECTURE AND Q&A
Please join the PTA for a lecture by Dr. Frank Bartolomeo of the Southfield Center on Thursday, April 25, 9 - 10:30 am, as he talks about raising confident and resilient teens in an era plagued by pressure, perfectionism and pervasive social media.
He will offer insights into the factors that impact our teens' sense of self-worth and the consequences of a negative self image, and offer specific parenting tips to help your child avoid the pitfalls of school and athletic pressures, a drive for perfectionism and poor decisions. A parent Q&A will follow the lecture.
GROWING STRONG READERS - PARENT WORKSHOP
What does it take to read successfully in high school and college, and
what should parents be doing now?
Joan Kelley, PUP Reading founder and former educator and Harvard Graduate School of Education Language & Literacy researcher, will talk about:
- the three types of skills children need to read well,
- why books and other texts become more challenging for students in the middle and high school years,
- how parents and grandparents can support reading skill growth - in easy and accessible ways - from birth through grade three.
Tuesday, April 30, 7 - 8:30 pm, Boys & Girls Club.
Wednesday, May 1, 10 - 11:30 am, Julian Curtiss School.

Eastern Middle School will be collecting cleats as part of the Same Cleats/New Feet project. Check your closets and bring in any cleats that you no longer use. You can put them in the big boxes in the front lobby starting Monday April 22, just after break. Rest assured that your old cleats will be put to good use by kids in Venezuela!
The SCA is continuing to collect box tops this year. Box tops for education can be found on many forms of household goods, including cereal, granola bars, fruit snacks, paper goods, and many more items. Cut out the boxtops and send them into AB. The SCA is planning on using money raised through box tops to buy supplies for a school in need. Please help us to make a great donation by collecting box tops at home!
