SAME CLEATS NEW FEET
cartoon-soccer-cleats.jpg
Eastern Middle School will be collecting cleats as part of the Same Cleats/New Feet project.  Check your closets and bring in any cleats that you no longer use.  You can put them in the big boxes in the front lobby starting Monday April 22, just after break.  Rest assured that your old cleats will be put to good use by kids in Venezuela!

BOX TOPS
The SCA is continuing to collect box tops this year.  Box tops for education can be found on many forms of household goods, including cereal, granola bars, fruit snacks, paper goods, and many more items.  Cut out the boxtops and send them into AB.  The SCA is planning on using money raised through box tops to buy supplies for a school in need. Please help us to make a great donation by collecting box tops at home!

WASTE REDUCTION UPDATE
Trex Challenge: EMS has collected over 60 pounds of plastic bags, wrap and film for a
total of 160 pounds. Please  bring only clean and dry materials and no  food or snack packaging. The  Trex Challenge will run until April 15, but EMS will accept these materials  until the end of the school year.

Pilot News:   An estimated 70 pounds of liquids and  composted produce per day are collected in the cafeterias, and recycling  contamination is at an all time low. Families can help by:
  • Select only foods that your children will eat and have them bring uneaten food home.
  • Send packed lunches in reusable containers rather than single-use disposables.
  • Ask your child to bring Ziploc bags back home for reuse.
  • Avoid buying items with lots of packaging and purchase snacks in bulk to pack in reusable containers.
Thank you for promoting waste reduction, recycling and composting at EMS!

If you do not want your child screened please email me or call the health office and leave a message.

The SCA will be collecting old phones from April 8 - 12.  Phones will be donated to the charity Secure the Call that provides free 911 emergency-only cell phones to Domestic Violence Centers, Senior Citizen Centers, Police and Sheriff departments.  The phones donated are in turn given back to the community and used to contact the Police in the case of an emergency.  Donation boxes will be in front of the main office and in the main lobby.
