FROM DR. PYLE...
The Christian Season of Easter, or Eastertide, extends from Easter Sunday to Pentecost. Passover and Pentecost were the two great feasts in the Jewish year. Pentecost was the Greek name for the old Jewish harvest feast that came at the end of small grain harvest at the beginning of summer. Pentecost is the Greek word for 50, since it came 50 days after Passover. We are now centuries away from the ancient Jewish farming rituals which celebrated the spring harvest. Our familiarity with these rituals is through their significance in the life of Jesus and the early church. Following his resurrection from the dead, Jesus spent 40 days with Disciples before his ascension into heaven. Ten days later, on the feast of Pentecost, the Spirit empowered the church to continue the ministry of Jesus and the expansion of God’s kingdom on earth. During Eastertide, we will continue to think about the resurrection of our Lord and its implication for our continuing ministry.

In preparation for Wednesday evening Vespers

FROM the MCFARLAND COMMITTEE...
Each year -- according to the procedures and practices of the McFarland Endowment Committee -- the Committee accepts input from the congregation regarding mission programs to benefit "world hunger and the world's poor" that the Church supports and engages in.

If you know of a project or mission endeavor that you believe the McFarland Committee should explore, there are Input Forms available in the Church Office; electronically, and on the table outside of the library. Please, fill out a form and return it to the Church Office for the Committee's consideration. The Input Forms will be available Monday, May 9, 2022. All Input Forms should be returned to the Church Office by MONDAY, JUNE 6, 2022.

The recommendation for all allocations will be shared with the congregation in late June. On August 10, 2022, a presentation of the Allocations will be presented to the congregation during the Vespers time slot for review and Q&A. On August 14, 2022, committee members will be available for an additional Q&A opportunity following the morning worship service. The Allocations will be subject to a Church vote in the regular scheduled Church Conference August 17, 2022. If there are any questions, please contact the McFarland Committee. Tim Lumpkins serves as Committee Chairperson this year.

Thank you all for your continued support of the McFarland Endowment.

Note from Martha…
Traditionally, when compiling the prayer lists published in the Forecaster and Enews; we list church members only. In the church office, we keep an extensive prayer list that includes friends and extended family; regardless of member status. This prayer list is available to anyone who would like one. You may pick one up at Wednesday Vespers, Sunday School, or any other time; OR call & we will email you a copy.

Also, in the Forecaster and Enews, we share sympathy notices about church members and/or their immediate family members; and wedding and birth announcements of members.

In an effort to respect everyone’s right to privacy, we DO NOT post any of the above-mentioned information unless we are given permission by the family or a representative of the family. If you have news to share, let us know.

If you have questions, please call me...thanks!
