Dr. Kimberly Pietsch Miller is the superintendent and CEO of Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools.
Don't Skip the Gratitude
In 1973 Charlie Brown observed, “It seems Thanksgiving Day is upon us.” But he wasn’t happy about it. He and his sister, Sally, both lamented the downside of holidays - extra work at school and a feeling of depression.

In 2004 the film, Christmas With the Kranks, the premise of the story is that a couple is missing their daughter who has left home for the Peace Corps the day after Thanksgiving. Sad that Christmas just “won’t be the same” without their daughter at home, they decide to skip Christmas and do something for themselves - a cruise!

In both cases, the challenges and stress of the holiday season are on full display. And why are the holidays so stressful for some? I think it is the expectations - either self-imposed or put on us by friends and family. Whether the expectation is around a party, a meal, a gift, or an event, the holidays can be stressful.

So what are we to do? How do we truly celebrate and enjoy the season?

EFCTS Partners with Habitat for Humanity to Provide Experience and Homes
Students in the Construction program at Fairfield Career Center gather around the foundation of their first Habitat for Humanity home. (November 21, 2022)
Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio is launching a new partnership with Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools that will provide homes for families in need while providing valuable, unique educational opportunities for students in its Construction program.

As part of the partnership, students will build a complete home at Fairfield Career Center utilizing skills they learn in the classroom. Once the home is almost complete, Habitat then will transport the home to its permanent location and complete the home for occupancy. The permanent location for the first home will be in Lancaster.

“We are very grateful for the opportunity to partner with Habitat for Humanity,” said Eastland-Fairfield Superintendent/CEO Dr. Kimberly Pietsch Miller. “Providing true work-based learning experiences for our students is foundational to career-technical education. More importantly, our students are serving others in our communities along the way.”

Multiple programs within the EFCTS District have or will work on this project. For more information on our students' roles and information on the partnership, click the button below.
Bloom-Carroll Students and Athletes Get Ready for a Championship Experience

This Friday will be special for Bloom-Carroll High School students and the Carroll community. The Bloom-Carroll football team is heading to the birthplace of professional football to play in the school’s first high school state championship game. Adding to the excitement is the fact that multiple Eastland-Fairfield students will be lining up for the Bulldogs in that title tilt.

The Bulldogs’ (14-1) opponent for the OHSAA Division III State Championship will be the Canfield Cardinals (13-1), located in northeast Ohio near Youngstown. Gametime at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton is set for 3 p.m. this Friday.

Eastland-Fairfield has 14 Bloom-Carroll students that will be strapping on the pads this Friday for the game, and a few took time out of their busy day to share with us how they feel about the upcoming experience.
Good luck to the Bloom-Carroll Bulldogs and especially all Eastland-Fairfield students representing both schools in this title game!
Career Connections Reveals Opportunities through Satellite Programs at New Albany High School
On Wednesday, November 30, middle school students from the New Albany-Plain Local school district had the opportunity to tour the Eastland-Fairfield Cyber Security lab, located at New Albany High School. During the all-day event, waves of middle school students had the chance to experience a day in the life of an EFCTS Cyber Security student, type code, learn about ethical hacking, and see if the world of internet security may be of interest to them.

Thank you to our friends and partners at New Albany-Plain Local Schools and New Albany High School for supporting this amazing opportunity to showcase our program and potential career paths to students!

Through the Eastland-Fairfield Career Connections courses that are housed throughout the district, middle school students have the opportunity to learn more about their career ambitions and strengths, and the jobs that align with those traits. EFCTS currently offers Career Connection programs in five of its partner school districts: Whitehall, New Albany, Reynoldsburg, Bloom-Carroll, and Amanda Clearcreek. We are seeking to expand Career Connections programming into three additional school districts in 2023-24.
Middle school students from New Albany pay a visit to the high school and the EFCTS Cyber Security program to learn about the opportunities in the world of internet security through Eastland-Fairfield.
Aviation Flies into Nationwide Insurance Corporate Hangar
What better way to learn about corporate aviation than to fly right into one of their hangars?! On November 21st, juniors in the Aviation program at Eastland Career Center spent a portion of their day at the Nationwide Insurance Corporate Hangar to meet with mechanics, pilots, and additional support staff that help propel Nationwide's business efforts in the air. Our friends at the hangar shared about their experiences, opportunities in the corporate aviation world, and provided a tour of the entire facility as part of the field trip. Students were even offered the chance to board a Challenger 650 business jet!

Thank you to our business partners and friends at Nationwide Insurance for providing this incredible opportunity for our students to learn and fuel their passions. Program Spotlight: Employability Prep (FCC)
New to Fairfield Career Center in 2022-23 is an additional section of our Employability Prep program. While there are a few nuances between the FCC section and our pre-existing section, the impact is just as great! While all of our students are rock stars at their respective job sites, we want to highlight a few who are doing amazing work.

Aiden Mullins (Liberty Union) is a fan-favorite, both with guests and coworkers, at the Panera Bread on Ety Rd. in Lancaster. Stop in to visit and find out why! His smile says it all.

Eliza Howlett (Canal Winchester) is a critical part of the Robert K. Fox YMCA in Lancaster. She helps keep guests informed, welcomed, and will even lead some programming as part of her experience!

Cooper Jones (Groveport Madison) wants to work in an auto body shop one day. He did not have to wait because now that is exactly where he is with our partner Performance GMC in Carroll!

If you stop in at the Scramblers on Ety Rd. in Lancaster, you'll likely see Janae Houston (Whitehall Yearling) smiling as she keeps the kitchen and dining areas in line, while also serving customers!
Aiden (Liberty Union) is fitting in perfectly with the staff at the Lancaster Panera Bread! We're so thankful for our partnership with our local Panera store.
Students enrolled in the Employability Prep program at FCC are paired with a community business partner and supported with on-site training that prepares students for future employment through good decision-making, problem-solving skills, and hands-on training. This new section allows students to take their academic courses at FCC and then work with partners located in Fairfield County with the added benefit of having public transportation as an option.
Eliza (Canal Winchester) is taking on many jobs and leadership roles at the YMCA of Fairfield County!
Cooper (Groveport Madison) has a knack for mechanics and gets to explore his passions daily at the Performance GMC in Carroll.
Janae (Whitehall Yearling) is a ball of energy, which makes her a valuable part of the team at Scramblers in Lancaster.
