Be it resolved.
Resolute: Purposeful, Determined, Unwavering

Resolution: A firm decision to do or not do something.

Official resolutions, such as those made by government entities and boards, often start with these words:

Therefore, be it resolved…

So what is your resolution for 2023? After all, it is the time of year when many of us have made or will make some type of resolution.

Cosmetology Shares its "12 Days of Creating" Project
Prior to the winter break, the Cosmetology students at Eastland Career Center unveiled their "12 Days of Creating" creations in which they put their skills to the test in a fun, themed project to close out the first semester. Students were given 30 minutes for 12 consecutive days in lab to create a stylish look on a mannequin and were asked to journal about the experience. The theme for this year's project was Winter Wonderland. Juniors and seniors had the opportunity to participate in the project and shared their finished works following the 12th and final day. Here are some of our students' fantastic-looking projects. Drummers, drumroll, please ...

Holiday Helpers from Marketing & Logistics
Marketing
Eastland-Fairfield students continued their philanthropic ways clear through the final day of the first semester. Students and staff from the Marketing & Logistics Management satellite program added to the lengthy list of charitable acts our students participated in leading into the holiday season. Guided by generosity and implementing their experience in logistics, Mr. Kelly Robinson and a handful of students worked with the Groveport Human Needs group to help pack trucks full of toys, clothes, and holiday donations that would later be delivered to local families in need.

Thank you to our students and staff for continuing to donate your time and effort to impact our local communities during the holiday season and year-round. The Marketing & Logistics Management satellite program is housed at Groveport Madison High School, one of the 17 associate high schools affiliated with Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools.

Program Spotlight: Sports Medicine (at Gahanna Lincoln)
Students in the Sports Medicine program at Gahanna Lincoln High School practice their wrapping and taping skills on one another.
Those that have played or even watch organized sports at any level can tell you the important roles medical personnel plays in an athlete's development or restoration. Less than three weeks ago, the entire country saw or learned of how they even saved a life on an athletic field during a live event. The Eastland-Fairfield Sports Medicine program is setting the foundation for students to become the next wave of our communities' athletic trainers, physical or occupational therapists, or sport-related medical practitioners.

We took a field trip to Clark Hall at Gahanna Lincoln High School to visit one of two Sports Medicine programs available at EFCTS. Under the instruction of Dr. Tiffanie Jones, students have been learning key medical terms and procedures to build their knowledge base as they dive deeper into hands-on instruction. To open the second semester, students are continuing their review of the skeletal system and wrapping tactics, understanding the why behind it and how to wrap different areas of the body, including the AC joint, thumb, hand, knee, and elbow area.

While we visited, the students began their afternoon with a Word of the Day, a new or review term relating to their current lesson. The students then reviewed proper techniques for wrapping and practiced on one another while receiving input and instruction from Dr. Jones as well as their peers.

The class' next lesson will allow them to dive into the human muscular system, which will lead to proper lifting techniques for future weight training exercises, which will be held inside the athletic weight room at Gahanna Lincoln High School. The project that many are most excited about is a facility design assignment that will challenge each student to design their ideal gym from the ground up, but on a strict budget.
"I knew it was going to be a good decision and I'm having a lot of fun in Sports Med." - Malachi E. (Reynoldsburg, right) is working toward a career in physical therapy and hopes to work with high school student-athletes.
"There are so many jobs different jobs in this field...it's not just athletic training. I love that this class broadens that horizon." Brooke M. (Gahanna, right) is setting the foundation for a career in radiology tech or orthopedics.
"I would 100% do it [Sports Medicine] again...it was probably the best decision that I've made." Kaylee D. (Hamilton Twp., left) aspires to attend Ohio University and pursue an athletic training career.
Students shared their aspirations and Dr. Jones reiterated that the Sports Medicine program is more than a pathway for athletic trainers. It is for those interested in medicine, personal training, occupation and physical therapists, and a myriad of other health and sport-related fields. Students from all over the district are flocking to the Sports Medicine program. Just within the Gahanna-based program, six different high schools are represented in the student population including Groveport Madison, Whitehall Yearling, Hamilton Township, Pickerington North, Reynoldsburg, and host Gahanna.

Applications remain open for the 2023-24 school year. Apply today!
The Eastland-Fairfield Sports Medicine program is available at two locations: Gahanna-Lincoln High School and New Albany High School. Both sections are open to all high school students residing in the district.
