Dr. Kim Miller's Blog
Dr. Kimberly Pietsch Miller is the superintendent and CEO of Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools.
The Real Real
The RealReal. It’s a luxury consignment shopping site that promises “real” designer products - not fakes. According to the UrbanDictionary, the term “real real” implies complete seriousness. And the word real itself means “existing or occurring as fact; actual rather than imaginary: being an actual thing; having objective existence; not imaginary” (Dictionary.com).

As we approach the end of the school year and graduation for seniors, I often say, “It’s about to get real real, real fast.” Meaning that life is going to change for students in very real and tangible ways as they end a 13-year journey through compulsory education. In the world of career technical education, the real real is a way of life.

We don't just lecture or read from a book. We learn by DOING! Check out just how real it can get in our "classrooms" by reading the rest of my blog!

Nine Students will Represent EFCTS at SkillsUSA Nationals!
Eastland-Fairfield will send nine students from four different programs to the SkillsUSA national conference following a series of medal-winning performances at the state competition, held last week. Five representatives will come from Eastland Career Center while two students from the Cyber Security satellite program housed in New Albany High School will round out the list of EFCTS students heading to Nationals. FCC Hosts E-Fair for Enlistment Opportunities
Members of the military and students gather around a military vehicle.
We are always asking students "What is your next 'E'?"

Less than 1% of the country's population chooses to enlist in the U.S. military. At Eastland-Fairfield, we proudly boast that nearly 3% of our graduating seniors choose to join a branch of the Armed Forces. To help support those students who have made that decision or allow others to explore the opportunities within the U.S. military, Fairfield Career Center recently hosted an E-Fair with a focus on the Enlistment option. Representatives from each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces were in attendance to share and connect interested students with opportunities that are available after graduation.

Eastland Career Center Assistant Principal, Mr. Rodney Harris, served as the keynote speaker and talked with students about his experience in the United States Marine Corps, teamwork, and dedication. FCC Principal, Mr. Matt McGregor, and Steve Pritchet of FCC campus security hosted a Q&A session regarding their experiences as former servicemen. The add a little fun to the mix, students were invited to tour military vehicles and equipment, engage in related activities, and test their skills on a hand-crafted obstacle course housed in the Criminal Justice lab. To round out the day, Mr. Ryan Fleming of Keystone Financial Group talked to students about the importance of financial literacy, a topic applicable no matter what E you are pursuing next.

Thank you to our staff, business partners, and military servicemen and women for supporting our students and helping them find their next E.
Ag Students Receive New Additions to Tool Chests
Company Wrench donates sockets to the ECC Ag program. Students gather to thank them.
Recently, Company Wrench Ltd. out of Carroll made a very gracious donation to the Agriculture & Heavy Equipment program at Eastland Career Center. Thanks to their generosity, students have new impact socket sets to use as they learn in their lab. They were ecstatic to use their new tools!

Thank you to Company Wrench Ltd. and to all of our partners for your support of our students!

NTHS Students Gives Back to Mother Earth
National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) students from Eastland Career Center spent Earth Day focusing on one of the organization's pillars: philanthropy. Students joined Mrs. Sitzman and the BESA volunteer group event to beautify one of our local communities by planting new trees at the Driving Park Community Center in Columbus. They were among 16 volunteers that gave more than a combined 48 hours of service that will be enjoyed for many years. Thank you to our staff and students for your service to our communities!
