Dr. Kim Miller's Blog
Dr. Kimberly Pietsch Miller is the superintendent and CEO of Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools.
Stay the Course
Perseverance. Grit. Commitment. Stick to it-ness. Staying the course.

Terms and phrases that we often hear when things begin to get difficult. When the newness or novelty of an endeavor begins to fade, we may be tempted to quit or change directions. And it is understandable. Beginnings are exciting, new, and engage us with the unknown. But beginnings are just that, beginnings.

And so it is now, and throughout the year, that we must encourage our students and our staff to persevere, to stick to it, to stay the course.

Lt. Governor Husted Hosts Superintendent's Roundtable at ECC
Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools and Eastland Career Center proudly served as the host to the Career Technical Education Superintendent’s Roundtable discussion, held by Lt. Governor Jon Husted. The event was held on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.

Eastland-Fairfield Superintendent/CEO Dr. Kimberly Pietsch Miller joined Lt. Governor Husted in welcoming an additional 10 superintendents or administrative leaders from career-technical organizations across Central Ohio. The roundtable discussion began with highlighting some of the recent successes and challenges for career-technical education (CTE) and their organizations, with increases in enrollment showing as a dominant trait.
The Perfect 'E' Role Model
At Eastland-Fairfield, students are encouraged to find their E - Employment, Education, Enlistment, or Entrepreneurship. Director of Student Support Systems Dwight Carter shows that it’s never too late to develop a second or third passion and find success in each of these categories. Carter recently published his first book as sole author. “Be Great: Five Principles to Improve School Culture from the Inside Out”

After he began sharing his thoughts and opinions on education, leadership, and learning experiences through a blog 11 years ago, he found himself co-authoring three books with fellow educational leader and mentor Mark White. This gave him the courage to write a book on his own based on what he said are “some guiding principles in my life.”

How does he juggle his newfound three E’s: full-time role, writing and speaking engagements, and his continuous quest to learn? He said it’s all about alignment and awareness.
Program Spotlight: Pre-Dental
On a recent visit to Fairfield Career Center, we stopped into the Pre-Dental lab to see what the junior class was working on as they begin their adventures into the world of dentistry. First-year instructor Jessica Hamilton already has her students comfortable handling different types of equipment to accomplish various tasks, and are even using one another as test subjects when getting into the lab chairs!

When our students complete the Pre-Dental program they'll leave with three certifications, including their Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certificate, and be on a pathway to becoming a dental assistant, hygenist, dentist, or lab technician, among the myriad of options open to them. With locations at Eastland and Fairfield Career Centers, students all over the district have opportunities to drill into a dental career.
Autumn Sturgill (Canal Winchester) and Nawal Ali (Gahanna Lincoln) team up to give a classmate a deep cleaning!
Claire Foster (Bloom-Carroll) and Sama Yusuf (New Albany) show off the molds they've made in lab.
Nafissatou Bathiery (Groveport Madison) and Alana Norfleet (Canal Winchester) deploy an oral X-ray!
