Eastland-Fairfield Receives $4.2 Million CTE Construction Grant
HUGE news was delivered in Kettering, Ohio where Governor Mike DeWine announced the recipients of $200 million in construction grant money to support career-technical education. Eastland-Fairfield is elated to share that the District will receive $4.2 million, which will be used to build a new facility to serve as the future home of a Welding program at Fairfield Career Center!
The funds granted to Eastland-Fairfield will put the first phases of the District's master facilities plan in motion. βWeβre thrilled that one of our top demands is going to be addressed directly by this generous grant. Weβre also excited about the additional work that can be done to serve future adult and high school students across the planning district that will follow as part of our larger master facilities expansion plan," said Superintendent/CEO Shelley Groves.

Governor DeWine Visits Eastland Career Center
Coming off of the news that Eastland-Fairfield was one of 35 schools to receive funds from a CTE Construction grant, the Governor's Office reached out and made another ask. Time and space for a visit!
Lt. Governor Jon Husted brought the Governor's Executive Workforce Board meeting to Eastland Career Center for the second time in two years. On November 14, Eastland-Fairfield students and staff welcomed Lt. Governor Husted and Governor Mike DeWine to campus. Both took time before the board meeting to meet students from five different labs, as well as take a few moments to look over the first draft of construction plans that are being fueled by the grant received from the Governor's Office.
Thank you to Governor DeWine, Lt. Governor Husted, their staff, and the Executive Workforce Board for supporting career-technical education and for their visit.

The Basic Police Officer Training program's evening class is very popular since it allows for flexibility other academies do not. The BPOT 115th Battalion is ready to get to work, led by class lieutenant, Ashley Ferrell.

Welcome, the cadets of the Eastland Police Academy, 116th Battalion. We can already tell that this group is lively with a lot of spirit, especially for the Buckeyes! The 116th is led by class lieutenant Hallie M. Gorman.

We've been waiting for this moment for a long time but we're finally ready to welcome the very first class of Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) students to Eastland-Fairfield! You certainly will find plenty of personality to go with their bedside manner. Welcome, and we're excited to be alongside you on your journey in healthcare.

Superintendent/CEO Shelley Groves loves (like REALLY loves) learning. So that she can channel her inner student, she is visiting different labs and classrooms around the district and switching roles with students so that they can teach her what they are learning.

Episode 1: The series takes flight with Aviation
In our first edition of Switching It Up, Mrs. Groves went to the Aviation lab at Eastland Career Center. Junior Krista B. (Gahanna-Lincoln) took Mrs. Groves under her wing to teach her how to create a pre-flight plan by mapping out their course, accounting for weather and flying conditions, and distance of the flight. After setting course, Krista and Mrs. Groves entered the digital cockpit and used a flight simulator to embark on a successful flight that landed to pilot and co-pilot duo at nearby Rickenbacker International Airport.

Episode 2: Under the hood and behind the goggles with HVAC
The following week, Mrs. Groves walked into the HVAC lab at Fairfield Career Center and was immediately handed a pair of tin sheers and electric metal sheers. She left that station with all of her fingers (phew!) and now knows how to cut sheet metal! We also got to play with one of the newest training tools in the lab, an Oculus Quest 2 headset, which is programmed to do training in virtual reality before sending students into a real work setting. How cool?!
Mrs. Groves has an incredible passion for learning and never turns down an opportunity to learn new skills or knowledge. In the coming weeks, she will be visiting the Welding and Pharmacy programs. After that, who knows!? But, we know it will be fun to follow and learn with Mrs. Groves and our students.
