Back to School Edition, 2022

Eastview Elementary School Times

262-348-6000

Dear Eastview Families and Friends,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year!  I hope that you had a wonderful summer and enjoyed your time with family and friends.  I also hope that all of our students had a chance to smile, to laugh, to play, to be a kid, and to recharge for the exciting learning they have ahead of them.  Our Eastview family is so excited to be back at school.  We have missed our students, and we cannot wait to have our building filled with student energy again.  Our kind and caring staff has been working hard to prepare for another successful school year together.  We are ready to help your students SOAR and accomplish their goals.

As always, Eastview prides itself on working cooperatively with our families and our community to help our students achieve.  A key to this success is communication, which will be extremely important this year.  During Open House, your child’s teacher will share how they will be communicating with you on a regular basis.  During the school year, please email your child’s homeroom teacher with any questions or needs, early in the day, so these can be addressed during lunch.  We ask that you please do your best to be consistent with how your child is going home at the end of the day.  If an emergency were to happen at the end of the day, please call the main office at 262-348-6000 by 2:00 PM so we can assure that your child gets where he/she needs to be.

We are looking forward to a fantastic school year!  Teamwork will be the key, and together we can accomplish anything.  As always, please never hesitate to contact me with any questions.  I am here to support you and your child.

Back to School Open House Information

We wanted to share a few details with you regarding Eastview's Open House

to ensure that you have a great experience!

  • Open House will take place from 4:00 - 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 30th.  During Open House, your homeroom teacher will be doing a short presentation to share important information about the school year.  The same presentation will be offered two times, so please plan to attend one of them.  Presentations will take place in the homeroom teacher classroom.
  • Presentations will take place at 4:30 - 4:50 PM and 6:15 - 6:35 PM.  Again, please plan to attend one of these presentations.

  • When coming to Open House, please bring back the forms that were mailed out to you in July.  Forms include the yellow Bus Transportation Form and the pink Parent Approval Form.  There will be baskets outside of the main office to turn in these forms.

  • We will also have Free and Reduced Lunch Forms available if you need them.

  • We encourage you to bring your child’s school supplies to Open House.  This will avoid your child having to carry a heavy backpack to school on the first day.  Teachers will have directions for you as to what to do with your supplies when you arrive at the classroom.  Supplies may be dropped off to homeroom classes both before and after the homeroom teacher presentation times.

  • Before and after the homeroom teacher presentation/classroom visit, we welcome you to tour Eastview and meet some of our specialty teachers.

  • We have a few groups that will have information tables set up at Open House.  Please feel free to visit these tables if you are interested in registering your child for activities such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Destination Imagination, etc.

  • There will be a table set up, outside by the main entrance, with a selection of lightly used gym shoes.  Please feel free to stop there and pick out a pair of gym shoes for this school year.

  • Families will not be signing up for October conferences during Open House.  Homeroom teachers will contact you in October to get those scheduled.

The First Day of School is Thursday, September 1st

When arriving at school on the first day, if driving your child, we ask that you drop your child off outside of the school, give them a hug and a kiss, and send them on their way with a smile.  Students should enter the building and go to their homeroom class.  We will have teachers and staff here to help any student who might need assistance getting to his/her classroom.

Morning and Afternoon Student Drop-off

and Pick-up Procedures

AM Drop Off: 8:20 - 8:35 AM

  • Enter the parking lot at the far Sage Street entrance
  • Pull into lane 1 to drop off student/s. Students should exit on the right side of the vehicle and cross with the adult to the school building.
  • Parents remain in the vehicle
  • Exit the parking lot using the same entrance

PM Pick-up: 3:35 - 3:40 PM

  • We ask that parents arrive no earlier than 3:25 PM
  • If using the parking lot for pick-up, enter the parking lot at the Sage Street entrance
  • Park vehicles in lanes 1, 2 and 3 of the parking lot; when lane 1 becomes full, then use lane 2, and then lane 3. Do not block the drive for buses that will be coming into the lot.
  • Students will walk to your vehicle and enter the vehicle on the left side. There will be adults to monitor students crossing in the lot.
  • Parents may also park on both sides of Sage Street. We ask that parents park north of the crosswalk on Sage Street.
  • We will help students cross Sage Street at the crosswalk

Eastview School Theme

This year, we will be using the theme “In S.O.A.R. We Succeed.” As a way to make our “welcome back” fun and exciting for students, you will notice our S.O.A.R. and Eastview Eagle decorations around the building. We have also incorporated this theme into daily lessons to help students pave their way to success this school year. We hope that your students enjoy it!

Throughout the school year, we will continue to discuss “S.O.A.R.” expectations with our students as a way to build their independent skills as well as their character.

What does S.O.A.R. stand for?

“S” - Show Self Control

“O” - Overcomes Challenges

“A” - Accept Responsibilities

“R” - Respect Self, Others, and Property

In addition, each month we will be focusing on a designated character trait and incorporating that trait into our daily instruction and routines with students. Students will receive Eagle Earnings when displaying positive character choices. Each month, classrooms will be nominating a “Leader of the Pack,” a student from their classroom whom they feel consistently demonstrates that monthly character trait.

September: SOAR into success

October: Responsibility

November: Respect

December: Work Ethic

January: Problem Solving

February: Empathy

March: Positive Mindset

April: Friendship

May: Leadership

Student Chromebook Procedures

All of our students will be assigned a Chromebook this year.  Students will be taking their Chromebooks home at the end of each school day and will return it the following school day.

Please plan for an appropriately sized backpack to accommodate the Chromebook.  Chargers will remain at home.  Students will be required to charge the Chromebook each night prior to bringing it to school the next day.

Additionally, we ask for your help in speaking with your child about how to care for their Chromebook.  Please refer to the following Chromebook Care information:

  • When unplugging, do so gently
  • Carry the Chromebook closed and with two hands
  • Keep your water bottle on the floor to avoid water damage; in your backpack, keep your water bottle in a safe spot away from your Chromebook
  • When not using the Chromebook, close it to save the battery

Thank you in advance for your assistance in guiding your child to take good care of this valuable classroom resource!

Parents, one of the most important ways in which you can help your child succeed this school year is to make sure your child gets to school, on time, each and every day. The evidence is clear: children with good attendance are more likely to be successful in school. High attendance rates are linked to high student achievement. Every day counts, and missing school even 10% of the time has a significant negative impact on reading and math achievement as children progress through school. I want to ask for your commitment to making sure your child attends school every day possible this year.

When your child does have to be absent from school, we ask that you communicate with us about the absence. When your child will be absent, you have two communication options:

  1. Call Mrs. Grelyack in the main office at 262-348-6000 to speak with her and/or leave a message by 9:30 AM each day.
  2. New this year, you may login to Powerschool to record the reason for your child’s absence. Please see the directions linked here.

We also ask that you let us know about pre-planned absences, including vacations and medical/dental appointments, ahead of time. When missing school for an appointment, it is always encouraged that you get documentation of your visit to provide to the school as verification. When leaving for an extended vacation, we also ask that you complete the planned absence request form LINKED HERE.

Lastly, please also note that, as a school, we are required to track student attendance and support families with any attendance issues or concerns. Our highest priority is to have students at school, and we are willing to help in any way we can. As a parent, it is important to understand the current State attendance laws stated below:

  • A parent or guardian may only excuse their child/children 10 days during the school year. After these 10 days, an absence can only be excused if the school is provided with a note from a doctor, dentist, court, etc. The same guidelines apply for excessive tardiness.

  • Once a student has been absent for 10 days (excused or unexcused), parents/guardians will receive a letter, noting the absences as well as procedures for next steps to improve attendance.

Thank you in advance for your support and your commitment to your child’s attendance this school year.

Summer School Review

During August, we hosted a successful summer school program for our incoming 4th and 5th grade students. Each day, students enjoyed learning a variety of topics in math, reading, writing, and STEM along with some time outside to play and have fun! This summer, we used the theme of “Flight and Aerodynamics” for our instruction. Around this theme, we were  fortunate to have enjoyed a hot air balloon demonstration from the Lake Geneva Balloon Company, along with a visit to the Burlington Airport! This was a great “jump start” opportunity to get back into the swing of school. Thank you to our awesome summer school staff including Mr. Tost, Ms. McKinney, Ms. Lois, Ms. Fesenmaier, and Mrs. Cruz, as well as to the students who participated in our program.

Health updates....
