NEWSLETTER

Engage. Educate. Empower.

Dear Eastview Families and Friends,

Happy February! As we embrace this month of love, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt appreciation for our incredible students, supportive families, dedicated staff, and the meaningful work that happens each day at Eastview. We are truly grateful for the opportunity to partner with you in your child’s education and for the sense of community that makes Eastview such a special place.

With the second semester in full swing, our students continue to demonstrate remarkable growth and dedication. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and the progress they are making. Following the winter iReady diagnostic, our staff is able to assess student gains in reading and math with greater precision, allowing us to tailor support and interventions more effectively. Additionally, our Multi-Language Learners have been showcasing their skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, further highlighting their commitment to learning. It is inspiring to see our students invest in their education and strive for success every day.

Time flies, and before we know it we will be planning for the next school year, while celebrating the incredible growth our students have achieved. Until then, we remain committed to fostering a strong sense of community, encouraging collaboration across grade levels, and celebrating each student's progress.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. Together, we make Eastview a place where students thrive!

Warm regards,

Katie Stanton

Principal

Lake Geneva Joint #1 Referendum

The Lake Geneva Joint #1 School District takes great pride in being an integral part of our community as we fulfill our mission to engage, educate, and empower the students, staff, and community of Lake Geneva Schools. Our district is known for its successful, robust academic and co-curricular programs, the incredible opportunities we offer to students throughout their time in our schools, and talented staff members.

While we are proud of our successes, the district also faces significant financial challenges. These challenges are out of our control and tied to the state’s school funding formula, a lack of aid to public schools in recent years, and rapidly increasing costs.

On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, the Lake Geneva Joint #1 School Board is asking our community to approve an operational referendum. If it is approved, the district will be able to exceed its state-imposed revenue limit by $4,000,000 per year for four years, beginning with the 2025-2026 school year and ending with the 2028-2029 school year, for non-recurring purposes.

The funding secured through this referendum is vital to ensure our district can avoid significant cuts to essential programs, services, and staffing across our schools, as well as addressing critical safety and security infrastructure, safeguarding the overall well-being and education of our students.

SCHOOL-WIDE EXPECTATIONS MATRIX

In an effort to bring consistent expectations to Eastview, staff will be going over Eastview's School-wide Expectations Matrix with all students in the first month of school. This matrix will provide students with a visual reminder and detailed explanation of what the expectations are for all students in various locations throughout the building. Staff will provide multiple opportunities for students to be taught and re-taught these expectations throughout the school year. We look forward to bringing consistency to our students and to provide them with opportunities to continue to enhance their learning environment.

THE SOAR AWARD

Each month, Eastview students will nominate fellow Eagles who exemplify Being Kind, Being Strong, and Being Well for the SOAR Award! This year's focus will be on the characteristics that students will be learning about in their Character Strong curriculum. Students who receive the award will be recognized on our morning announcements, will be highlighted in our monthly newsletter, and will receive a certificate honoring their positive contribution to the culture of Eastview.

SOAR Award recipients are not necessarily those students who excel academically or in extracurricular activities. With this award, students are striving to recognize peers who continue to follow school-wide and classroom expectations, and who exhibit values that make a positive difference in our school and community. These are students who demonstrate exceptional character but never expect recognition. They are members of our Eastview Elementary community who are seen as positively impacting the culture of our school on a daily basis.

This month, the recipients of the SOAR award have shown that they continually demonstrate what it means to show empathy. They have shown that they understand and connect with other people's feelings. Congratulations to our recipients this month: Brecken Cumming, Itzy Cruz Cruz, Mya Kerr, Larry Lawson, Alina Martinez, Zeus Nunez, Malaki Oni, Richard Parker, Ryder Pody, Jesse Salgado, and Evalyn Slapinski.

CHARACTER STRONG

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This month students will be concluding their learning on the topic of Perseverance. In addition, they will begin to learn about Honesty in their Character Strong curriculum.

One way to think about Honesty is "being truthful in what you say and do." Practicing Honesty will help strengthen student relationships and reduce stress.

Honesty is one of three traits that students will focus on throughout the year that helps students "Be Well." Throughout the school year, students will be developing skills like emotion regulation, positive self-talk, and stress-management.

WHEN TO STAY HOME

When to Send Your Child to School

or Keep Them Home?

At Lake Geneva Schools, we know that regular attendance is key to academic success! Being in class daily helps students build strong habits, stay engaged, and gain valuable social skills. However, we also want to maintain a healthy, germ-free learning environment.

Use this guide (https://bit.ly/healthyLGS) to help decide when your child should attend school or stay home to recover. If your child has a fever over 100.4°F, vomiting, or diarrhea in the last 24 hours, it's best for them to rest at home. For minor symptoms like a runny nose, if there’s no fever, they’re ready for class!

When in doubt, contact the school health office, and let's work together to keep everyone healthy and learning!

Superintendent Dr. Peter Wilson will host a series of “Coffee with the Superintendent” events throughout the upcoming months. These informal gatherings provide an opportunity for parents and community members to engage in open discussions about Lake Geneva Schools.

COMMUNICATION PROTOCOL

Whom do I contact with a question or suggestion?

Lake Geneva Schools’ communication protocols help promote direct, open, and respectful interactions so that we quickly and efficiently resolve problems and concerns. The communication protocol starts with the staff member closest to the situation, as that person usually has the most information. However, at times, additional personnel are required to resolve specific concerns.
