Dear Eastview Friends and Families,
Thank you for a wonderful start to the school year. Over the past six weeks, we have been busy learning school routines, forming relationships with staff and peers, and exploring new content in our classrooms. Along with the start of school has also come the onset of illnesses, including students who have become ill and/or have had to quarantine. As I have received a few questions about this, I wanted to clarify what the learning expectations are when your child is absent from school.
First and foremost, when your child is ill, we want the time away from school to be spent recovering in order for your child to return to school as soon as possible. For students who are out of school for an extended period of time (such as family quarantine) and/or feel well enough to complete work, we highly encourage students to complete work and remain active with their learning. When work is done at home, the transition back to school is much easier, as the student will not fall behind on missed content and/or assignments.
When you know your child will be out of school, particularly for an extended period of time, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher to request work. We are not live streaming instruction this year, but we can provide work for your child. Students are able to access work in a number of ways including:
Your child’s homeroom teacher can prepare work to be picked up in the office.
Your child can login to his/her google classroom to access assignments.
We have math instructional videos, aligned to our math lessons, available for
students to watch.
Your child can always read. If they do not have a book at home, one can be picked up in the office. There are also many online reading resources such as Tumblebooks and Getepic.
We would encourage a minimum of 30 minutes of reading each day.
Your child can practice math on Rocket Math.
Your child can complete units in Lexia.
We know how difficult it is when a child is out of school, particularly for an extended period of time. With your help at home, completing assignments and remaining active with school learning, our hope is that the transition back to school will be as smooth as possible. We are here to support your child and appreciate all that you are doing on the homefront. As you know, it takes a team; thank you for your continued patience and support as we navigate this school year together.
Wishing you a joyful Thanksgiving holiday,
Mrs. Erin Zigler
Principal
