NEWSLETTER

Engage. Educate. Empower.

Dear Eastview Families and Friends,

The month of October has been a busy one, full of learning, fun, and excitement here at school. In our classrooms, students have been engaged in learning new concepts in the areas of math, ELA, science and social studies. Teachers have been busy working with students, in both large and small groups, assessing their progress in mastering these new skills, and providing engaging opportunities to reflect on their learning. It was wonderful for teachers to meet with families to share these learning moments, as well as the progress that their students have made during these first two months of the year. In addition to our academics, a few extra-curricular highlights from this month include Badger Homecoming week, LGMS band parade at Eastview, Lighted School House activities, a 4th grade walking field trip, the Eastview-Star cross country meet, our monthly teacher trivia, and the Scholastic Book Fair.

During the month of November, as a part of our Character Strong trait of Be Well, we will be focusing on gratitude. As a school community, we will be working to choose and appreciate the people and things in our lives that increase our well-being and happiness. Gratitude will also be the focus during our morning meeting time. As a part of our SOAR expectations, we will be celebrating the end of our first quarter with our Eagle Earnings raffle, where students will participate in an opportunity to win a prize with their Eagle Earnings. Finally, an additional notable event this month includes our Veteran’s Day Assembly on November 11th. Student report cards will also be sent home on November 15th, so please look for those to be emailed to you.

As always, please feel free to reach out to us with any questions. As we head towards the season of Thanksgiving, we are thankful for your continued support and being a part of our Eastview community.

Sincerely,

Katie Stanton

Principal

SCHOOL-WIDE EXPECTATIONS MATRIX

In an effort to bring consistent expectations to Eastview, staff will be going over Eastview's School-wide Expectations Matrix with all students in the first month of school. This matrix will provide students with a visual reminder and detailed explanation of what the expectations are for all students in various locations throughout the building. Staff will provide multiple opportunities for students to be taught and re-taught these expectations throughout the school year. We look forward to bringing consistency to our students and to provide them with opportunities to continue to enhance their learning environment.

THE SOAR AWARD

Each month, Eastview students will nominate fellow Eagles who exemplify Being Kind, Being Strong, and Being Well for the SOAR Award! This year's focus will be on the characteristics that students will be learning about in their Character Strong curriculum. Students who receive the award will be recognized on our morning announcements, will be highlighted in our monthly newsletter, and will receive a certificate honoring their positive contribution to the culture of Eastview.

SOAR Award recipients are not necessarily those students who excel academically or in extracurricular activities. With this award, students are striving to recognize peers who continue to follow school-wide and classroom expectations, and who exhibit values that make a positive difference in our school and community. These are students who demonstrate exceptional character but never expect recognition. They are members of our Eastview Elementary community who are seen as positively impacting the culture of our school on a daily basis.

This month, the recipients of the SOAR award have shown that they continually demonstrate responsibility. They have shown that they can take action and understand the impact of their choices. Congratulations to our recipients this month:

Lily Baertschy, Mia Kronkiewicz, Lucas Marquez-Villanueva, Levi Martin, Brooke O'Connor, Avery Olson, Ruby Rocha, Koa Smith, Adalynn Soto Miramontes, Matthew Theyer, and Madelyn Wojcik

CKLA UPDATE

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are excited to partner with you in your child's education journey using the Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) curriculum. CKLA is designed to build students' reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, while also providing knowledge about important topics in history, science, and literature.

We understand that learning happens not only in the classroom but also at home. Here are some ways you can help support your child's success with CKLA:

1. Encourage Writing

Writing is a key component of CKLA. You can:

  • Create a writing space: Give your child a quiet space and materials to practice writing. Encourage them to write stories, keep a journal, or write about things they enjoy.
  • Provide feedback: Praise their efforts and offer gentle suggestions to improve spelling, grammar, or ideas.

2. Support Good Listening and Speaking Habits

CKLA encourages students to listen carefully and share their ideas clearly. You can help by:

  • Engaging in conversation: Have regular discussions where your child can share their thoughts and ideas. Listen attentively and ask follow-up questions.
  • Model clear speaking: When talking to your child, speak clearly and encourage them to express themselves confidently.

3. Be Involved

  • Review materials: Take time to go over your child’s CKLA materials. Discuss any assignments or reading they are working on.
  • Stay connected: Reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions or need clarification on how to support your child’s learning at home.

By working together, we can help your child develop a strong foundation in language arts and knowledge across various subjects. Your involvement makes a big difference in your child’s learning experience, and we appreciate your support!

If you have any questions or would like more resources on how to support CKLA learning at home, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for being a part of your child’s educational journey.

Sincerely,

Erin Zigler

Director of Curriculum and Instruction

CHARACTER STRONG

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This month students will be learning about Gratitude in their Character Strong curriculum. One way to think about gratitude is "choosing to appreciate the people and things in our lives." Practicing gratitude can increase our well-being and our happiness.

Gratitude is one of three traits that students will focus on throughout the year that helps students "Be Well." Throughout the school year, students will be developing skills like emotion regulation, positive self-talk, and stress management.

WHEN TO STAY HOME

When to Send Your Child to School

or Keep Them Home?

At Lake Geneva Schools, we know that regular attendance is key to academic success! Being in class daily helps students build strong habits, stay engaged, and gain valuable social skills. However, we also want to maintain a healthy, germ-free learning environment.

Use this guide (https://bit.ly/healthyLGS) to help decide when your child should attend school or stay home to recover. If your child has a fever over 100.4°F, vomiting, or diarrhea in the last 24 hours, it's best for them to rest at home. For minor symptoms like a runny nose, if there’s no fever, they’re ready for class!

When in doubt, contact the school health office, and let's work together to keep everyone healthy and learning!

COMMUNICATION PROTOCOL

Whom do I contact with a question or suggestion?

Lake Geneva Schools’ communication protocols help promote direct, open, and respectful interactions so that we quickly and efficiently resolve problems and concerns. The communication protocol starts with the staff member closest to the situation, as that person usually has the most information. However, at times, additional personnel are required to resolve specific concerns.

SNACKS & WATER BOTTLES

We are once again asking that children bring their own individual snacks and water bottles. Students are welcome to bring store-bought birthday treats and special event snacks. We do have fill stations at the drinking fountains throughout the building so students can refill their water bottles. No worries if your child does not have a water bottle, as the drinking fountains will be accessible, as needed.

ATTENDANCE

One of the biggest ways you can help your child succeed this school year is to make sure your child gets to school on time each and every day. The evidence is clear: children with good attendance are more likely to be successful in school. High attendance rates are linked to high student achievement. Every day counts, and missing school even 10% of the time has a significant negative impact on reading and math achievement as children progress through school. We want to ask for your commitment to making sure your child attends school every day possible this year.

When your child does have to be absent from school, we ask that you communicate with us about the absence. When your child will be absent, you have two communication options:

Call Mrs. Grelyak in the main office at 262-348-6000 to speak with her and/or leave a message by 9:00 AM each day. Please do not email her, for if she is absent no one will see the message.

You may log in to PowerSchool to record the reason for your child’s absence. Please see the directions linked here.

We also ask that you let us know about pre-planned absences, including vacations and doctor appointments, ahead of time. When missing school for an appointment, it is always encouraged that you get documentation of your visit to provide to the school as verification. When leaving for an extended vacation (3 or more days), we also ask that you complete the Planned Absence Request Form. This form can be obtained from Mrs. Grelyak in the office.

Lastly, please also note that, as a school, we are required to track student attendance and support families with any attendance issues or concerns. Our highest priority is to have students at school, and we are willing to help in any way we can. As a parent, it is important to understand the current State of Wisconsin attendance laws stated below:

A parent or guardian may only excuse their child/children for 10 days during the school year, including doctor visits. After these 10 days, an absence can only be excused if the school is provided with a note from a doctor, dentist, court, etc. The same guidelines apply to excessive tardies.

Once a student has been absent for 7 days (excused or unexcused), parents/guardians will receive a letter noting the absences as well as procedures for the next steps to improve attendance.

Thank you in advance for your commitment and support to your child’s attendance this school year.

VISITORS & VOLUNTEERS

We love seeing our families at school, but it is important to keep our focus on a happy and successful school day. If you need to bring something to school, please bring it directly to the office, and we will happily deliver it to your child.
