NEWSLETTER

Engage. Educate. Empower.

Dear Eastview Families,

It is hard to believe that we have already been back to school for a month! Thank you to all our teachers, staff, students, and parents for making September a fantastic start to the year. Seeing our students dive into learning and embrace new routines has been truly inspiring.

This first month, we focused on building strong relationships, practicing school routines and expectations, and creating a safe, supportive environment where every student can thrive. I hope your child has shared some of the fun activities and learning experiences from their classroom. Each day, we devote time to discussing and modeling Eastview’s expectations, and we are proud of the progress our students have made in just a few weeks.

Academically, students are engaged in math, ELA, science, and social studies lessons, while many are also enjoying extracurricular opportunities like our Cross Country practices. Overall, the start of the year has been positive, with students working hard and showing great enthusiasm.

Looking ahead to October, we are excited to focus on the character trait of responsibility as part of our Character Strong curriculum. Teachers will guide students in understanding their responsibilities both as learners and as valued members of our Eastview community. We will also continue with our CKLA curriculum, offering engaging and fun ELA activities.

Don’t miss some of our upcoming events: the Badger Homecoming Week celebration, the elementary cross country meet, and the Scholastic Book Fair, alongside Parent-Teacher conferences—all happening at the end of the month.

As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have. Thank you for your ongoing support and for being an essential part of the Eastview family. Together, we’re making this school year a rewarding journey for every student.

Warm regards,

Katie Stanton

Wisconsin ACT 20

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

The district wants to share some important details about the reading components of Act 20, a new legislation passed in Wisconsin in July 2023.

What is Wisconsin Act 20?

Wisconsin Act 20 is a law that aims to ensure that all Wisconsin public school students are proficient readers by the end of third grade. The law requires schools to:

  1. Assess early literacy skills in grades 4K - 3rd grade, using AIMSwebplus Pearson. The assessment evaluates students’ phonemic awareness, decoding skills, alphabet knowledge, letter-sound knowledge, and vocabulary.
  2. Provide all teachers with professional development training in science-based early reading instruction.
  3. Adopt an approved reading curriculum that meets all required reading instruction elements. We have adopted Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA), which meets all of the state requirements.
  4. Provide every child below the 25th percentile with additional support he/she needs to develop strong reading skills. Beginning in January 2025, this support will take the form of a Personal Reading Plan (PRP).

What are Personal Reading Plans (PRP)?

Personal Reading Plans are tailored to meet the unique needs of students struggling with reading or not meeting grade-level benchmarks. Key aspects include:

  1. Assessment and Identification: Teachers will conduct assessments to identify students who may benefit from a PRP. This ensures that we understand each child's strengths and areas for growth.
  2. Individualized Goals: Each PRP will set specific, measurable reading goals tailored to the child’s current level. These goals will improve phonemic awareness, fluency, and comprehension skills.
  3. Targeted Support: The plans will include strategies and resources to support reading growth, such as additional reading interventions, resources for home support, and personalized instruction.
  4. Regular Monitoring: Teachers will progress and monitor students toward the goals outlined in the PRP.
  5. Family Involvement: We encourage your involvement in this process. You will receive updates on your child's progress and suggestions for activities you can do at home to reinforce their learning.

Why Are PRPs Important?

The PRPs aim to ensure that every child has the opportunity to become a confident and competent reader. Early intervention is crucial, and PRPs provide a structured way to address individual needs. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child's reading progress, please feel free to reach out.

Best regards,

Report Card Updates

Dear Families,

We are excited to share some wonderful news as we head into the fall of our school year! Over the summer, our grade-level teams worked hard to update and improve our elementary report cards. These updates were made to better align with our current academic standards and curriculum.

Why is this change so positive?

  • Clearer communication: The updated report cards provide families with a more accurate picture of what students are learning and how they are progressing in each subject area.

  • Focus on growth: They highlight the skills and knowledge your child is building step by step, helping us celebrate progress along the way.

  • Stronger connection to classroom learning: Since the report cards are directly tied to our curriculum, you will see a clearer link between what your child is doing in class and what is reflected on the report card.

  • Support for every child: These changes provide teachers, families, and students the opportunity to partner more effectively in supporting each child’s learning journey.

  • Alignment across grade levels: All of our 4K - 5th-grade teachers will be using the same rating system, aligning all of our report card templates as children progress through our grade levels.

These updates make it easier for families to understand student progress and help children take pride in their growth. Our teachers are eager to use the new format this year, and we look forward to sharing your student’s achievements with you in a way that is both meaningful and encouraging.

At your fall parent-teacher conference at the end of October, your teacher will preview a copy of the new report card template with you. Additionally, we have also moved to a trimester grading system for our 4K - 5th-grade students. Please note that you will be receiving a report card for your 4K - 5th-grade student(s) on December 5th, March 13th, and June 5th. Lake Geneva Middle School and Badger High School remain on quarterly grading periods.

Thank you for your continued partnership. Together, we are helping our students reach their fullest potential!

Sincerely,

Erin Zigler

With the purchase of your ticket, kids ages (6-15) will be entered to win an experience at the game.

When buying your tickets it will ask how many children ages 6-15 are in your group and also the school they attend. When all tickets are sold they will pull names and those children will get to either sit courtside for warm ups or do the tunnel prior to the game.

All unsold reserved seats have to given back by October 18th. However, anyone can still grab a ticket on the link after October 18th. You can also purchase from the link the day of the game, as well.

Snacks & Water Bottles

We are once again asking that children bring their own individual snacks and water bottles. Students are welcome to bring store-bought birthday treats and special event snacks. We do have fill stations at the drinking fountains throughout the building so students can refill their water bottles. No worries if your child does not have a water bottle, as the drinking fountains will be accessible, as needed.

Attendance

One of the biggest ways you can help your child succeed this school year is to make sure your child gets to school on time each and every day. The evidence is clear: children with good attendance are more likely to be successful in school. High attendance rates are linked to high student achievement. Every day counts, and missing school even 10% of the time has a significant negative impact on reading and math achievement as children progress through school. We want to ask for your commitment to making sure your child attends school every day possible this year.

When your child does have to be absent from school, we ask that you communicate with us about the absence. When your child will be absent, you have two communication options:

Call or email Mrs. Donahue in the main office at 262-348-6000 to speak with her and/or leave a message by 9:00 AM each day.

You may log in to PowerSchool to record the reason for your child’s absence. Please see the directions linked here.

We also ask that you let us know about pre-planned absences, including vacations and doctor appointments, ahead of time. When missing school for an appointment, it is always encouraged that you get documentation of your visit to provide to the school as verification. When leaving for an extended vacation (3 or more days), we also ask that you complete the Planned Absence Request Form. This form can be obtained in the office.

Lastly, please also note that, as a school, we are required to track student attendance and support families with any attendance issues or concerns. Our highest priority is to have students at school, and we are willing to help in any way we can. As a parent, it is important to understand the current State of Wisconsin attendance laws stated below:

A parent or guardian may only excuse their child/children for 10 days during the school year, including doctor visits. After these 10 days, an absence can only be excused if the school is provided with a note from a doctor, dentist, court, etc. The same guidelines apply to excessive tardies.

Once a student has been absent for 7 days (excused or unexcused), parents/guardians will receive a letter noting the absences as well as procedures for the next steps to improve attendance.

Thank you in advance for your commitment and support to your child’s attendance this school year.

When to Send Your Child to School or Keep Them Home?

At Lake Geneva Schools, we know that regular attendance is key to academic success! Being in class daily helps students build strong habits, stay engaged, and gain valuable social skills. However, we also want to maintain a healthy, germ-free learning environment.

Use this guide (https://bit.ly/healthyLGS) to help decide when your child should attend school or stay home to recover. If your child has a fever over 100.4°F, vomiting, or diarrhea in the last 24 hours, it's best for them to rest at home. For minor symptoms like a runny nose, if there’s no fever, they’re ready for class!

When in doubt, contact the school health office, and let's work together to keep everyone healthy and learning!

Student Drop-Off & Pick-Up

School Hours: 8:35 AM - 3:35 PM

 Drop-Off: 8:20 - 8:35 AM

 Pick-up: 3:30 - 3:35 PM

Bus Dismissal: 3:35 PM

When arriving at school on the first day, if driving your child, we ask that you drop your child off outside of the school, give them a hug and a kiss, and send them on their way with a smile! Students should enter the building and go to their homeroom class. We will have teachers and staff here to help any student who might need assistance getting to his/her classroom.

Morning and Afternoon Student Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures

AM Drop Off: 8:20 - 8:35 AM

  • Enter the parking lot at the far Sage Street entrance
  • Pull into lane 1 to drop off student/s. Students should exit on the right side of the vehicle and cross with the adult to the school building.
  • Parents remain in the vehicle
  • Exit the parking lot using the same entrance

PM Pick-up: 3:30 - 3:35 PM

  • We ask that parents arrive no earlier than 3:20 PM
  • If using the parking lot for pick-up, enter the parking lot at the Sage Street entrance
  • Park vehicles in lanes 1, 2 and 3 of the parking lot; when lane 1 becomes full, then use lane 2, and then lane 3. Do not block the drive for buses that will be coming into the lot.
  • Students will walk to your vehicle and enter the vehicle on the right side. There will be adults to monitor students crossing in the lot.
  • Parents may also park on both sides of Sage Street. We ask that parents park north of the crosswalk on Sage Street.
  • We will help students cross Sage Street at the crosswalk.

Volunteers

Parental support is very important to ALL of the students and staff. We welcome you to volunteer in whatever ways you can. If you are interested in helping at school or want to volunteer for school events, please complete the VOLUNTEER APPLICATION AND CONSENT FORM. It is available on the district website or from the school office.
