Words to Live By - Fr. Michael Tinnon
Good News in Tough Times
|
But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you
good news of great joy for all the people."-
Luke 2:10, NRSV
Nearly six weeks have passed since our Christmas celebrations at Christ Church. Almost thirty days elapsed since we spoke of the good news of the birth of Christ.
So often, good news seems unpredictable, elusive, and short-lived. You never know when or where you’ll hear about or experience good news. Good news is intangible and when it comes around, it seemingly doesn’t last very long; definitely, not as long as we’d like.
Sometimes, in tough times, it's hard to discover any semblance of good news. We live fast-paced lives in a world replete with wars and rumors of war. We experience political agendas, celebrity failures, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, ecological disasters and the list seems endless.
Yes, oftentimes it's hard to find any "good news" in our midst, but the good news is ...there is always some "good news" to discover. Sometimes, like the proverbial "needle in a haystack" – we must seek to find good news - or maybe – we simply become the good news.

Spaghetti Dinner Thanks
A great success...as always
|
A
hearty thank you
to all who came to our
13th annual David Hopkins Memorial Spaghetti Dinner
to benefit the Neighborhood Pantry at St Mark's. Thank you to our marvelous CCDS wait staff, our kitchen and front-of-house crew, and to all who came and ate and donated nonperishable food. In all, we
served 235 dinners
,
collected 632
items for the pantry, and you generously
donated $430 in cash
to support the pantry as well. Our
Day School Coffee and Dessert
room
collected $462
to help the 5th grade's project to
provide water for the Navajo nation
. Thank you, one and all!
Remember, the pantry serves the needs of the community around St. Mark's all year long so your on-going donations of non-perishable items are always welcome. Check their
website for each month's particular item, or bring what you feel moved to donate.

Pastoral Care Training
Are you called to serve?
|
We are called to love our neighbor as ourselves from the time we are born until the time we leave our earthly existence. As a church community, we have a number of our brothers and sisters who are afflicted with ailments ranging from the flu, surgeries, and the onset of one’s final days. We all know the benefit of a warm smile or tender touch and sharing a prayer and the good news of the gospel.
We will be having a
training here at Christ Church
for those who may be
interested in offering pastoral visits and/or Eucharist
, sometime late February….please watch for further information. If you have questions, please contact
Father Michael
or
Deacon Tom
.

will be with the us at the
9:00 a.m. forum Sunday, February 16
to provide us with the
highlights of the findings
.
Please join us for this to learn more about who we are and to support the discernment process for our new rector.

Not Able to Make it to Church?
3 things to DO....
|
Some Sundays you just can't make it to church. In that case, here are three things you can do:
- Watch the Sunday service on our live-stream, both the 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. - via the website
- Each week's Sunday bulletins for both services are also available on the website "Worship" page.
- Sermons are usually posted on the homepage of the website, under "News".
Remember, the live-stream is just that, it broadcasts the services in real time, no recording is currently available.
