Dear Panther family,
Next week we begin the 2020-21 School Year and I hope that everyone is healthy, safe, and not feeling too overwhelmed by anxiety and stress. I also hope that everyone was able to find some joy during Summer Break and that our students are ready to get back to school- even though it will not be in person.
Although there is still so much uncertainty and plenty of stress about the upcoming school year, I want to leave you all with two particularly important messages as we enter this school year together:
1-     When in doubt, CHOOSE KINDNESS! Our words and our behaviors matter. Everyone is going through this and doing the best they can. Let’s all remember that before we engage.

2-     WE SET THE TONE! Our response, our participation, and our support will determine the success of our children’s entire school year. So, no matter HOW school looks this year, let’s encourage our kids to LEARN, ADAPT, CHANGE, SERVE, LOVE, GROW, AND SUCCEED!
May you all be healthy & safe,
Gina Vinueza, MPSH PTSA President
Miami-Dade County Public Schools Week of Welcome Info & Reopening Parent Webinar:

Miami-Dade County Public Schools will hold their Week of Welcome Aug. 24th-28th. The complete Reopening Guide, information and scheduling of the week’s events, FAQs and more, can be found at this web site: http://miamiweekofwelcome.com

From Superintendent Carvalho:

During Week of Welcome, which will take place from August 24 to August 28, parents and students will be able to access content that has been carefully developed and curated to guide them through the most important things they need to know prior to the start of the school year. These modules, which will be made available in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole via the Week of Welcome website at miamiweekofwelcome.com with select modules also being televised on WLRN, will help set the tone for a successful school year and help ensure a smooth transition to My School Online.

In an effort to answer additional questions, Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho will also host a webinar for parents and guardians on Tuesday, August 25, at 5:30 p.m.
The hour-long webinar can be accessed by visiting http://reopening.dadeschools.net and will also air simultaneously on WLRN-TV Ch. 17.

Palmetto High PTSA will continue to keep you updated with back-to-(virtual!) school information as we get it. As a reminder, the PTSA Parent Welcome Slideshow, it will be posted on our social media, sent out via e-blast and available on our website by 6pm on August 24th.

Communication is especially important in a virtual environment. To stay connected, it is imperative for parents to keep their contact information updated at their child’s school. Families can also sign up to receive emergency text messages by texting “Y” to 67587.

For the most up-to-date information, please download the Dadeschools mobile app to your iPhone or Android device. Follow us on Twitter @mdcps and @miamisup, on Instagram @miamischools and @miamisup, and on Facebook at MiamiSchools and AlbertoCarvalho

SCOIR IS HERE!

This is just the beginning of a new chapter of college search and applications. MDCPS is using a program called SCOIR which will facilitate applications, college search, interest inventory, and everything else pertaining to post secondary search.

We need our students and parents to sign up for this as soon as possible.

Here is a list of instructions for the kids to sign up.

Please pass it on to your kids no matter what the grade level is, but we are focusing on juniors right now.

They will be able to use it today!

Students can use these instructions to register for their Scoir account, which are also located in the Student Getting Started Guide . If you are using the URL method (which is what I recommend if students do not check their email), those instructions begin at the 1:25 minute mark of the video. Please see below for written instructions:

Step 1 : Open up your school registration URL: https://app.scoir.com/signup?hsid=101153
Step 2 : Enter an email that you would like associated with your Scoir account and submit. This should be an email that you plan to frequently check because important notifications, such as messages from your counselor, will be sent to this email address.
Step 3 : Check your email to find the Scoir email invitation and select the option to complete your registration.
Step 4 : You may be prompted to enter your Student ID number and birthdate. Enter this information correctly and select the option to verify your student ID.
Step 5 : Create a password and sign up! You can now begin exploring Scoir !
Step 6 : To access your account moving forward, sign in at app.scoir.com.

Designs can be purchased in multiple clothing styles (tshirts, sweatshirts, etc.) and some designs are available in multiple colors. Orders are custom printed and take 2-3 weeks for delivery. Several great new designs have been added.
