Register today for Eblen Charities’ 20th anniversary Walk, Run or Roll fundraiser presented by Beverly-Hanks REALTORS. You can walk, run or cycle anywhere you want, any time you want between May 8-15 to support the work of Eblen Charities for people in financial crisis. This year’s proceeds will provide emergency housing assistance for Buncombe County student families affected by the pandemic. Beverly-Hanks President Neal Hanks is serving as honorary chair and is sponsoring three company teams to raise funds. Hanks is also challenging other Asheville-area businesses to do the same.

“I’m happy to serve in this role to help raise much-needed funds to keep families in their homes during this challenging time,” said Hanks, who also serves on the Eblen Charities Board of Directors. “This is a great way for the community to come together to help our neighbors in need.”

Register at eblencharities.org as an individual or form a “friends and family team” or a “corporate team,” and raise funds through an easy-to-use online portal. Everyone who raises $100 or more will earn a 20th anniversary commemorative T-shirt.

This Month at Eblen

A Record-Breaking Jersey Mike's Month of Giving for Eblen Charities

April began with news that Jersey Mike’s Month of Giving for March was a huge success! This year you helped us raise $27,000! We are so thankful to Jersey Mike’s for donating 100% of sales on the #DayOfGiving and donations made all through March to Eblen Charities to help those in need in our community! Thank you to everyone at Jersey Mike’s for your support and to everyone who took time out of their day to grab a delicious sub in support of Eblen!

The participating Asheville restaurants were River Hills Shops, West Asheville, Hendersonville Road and the Rutledge Commons Shopping Center on Airport Road. These funds are used to help local families in the community with emergency needs such as, heat, housing, medical needs, and more.

“Eblen Charities does some wonderful things for the people of Western North Carolina,” said local owner Patrick Dillingham. “We enjoy partnering with well-respected charities like Eblen. We would not be able to do so without the support we have received from our customers, as well as Jersey Mike’s founder, Peter Cancro.”

LIEAP: Low Income Energy Assistance Program

Winter 2020-2021

Eblen Charities was again pleased to partner with Buncombe County Health and Human Services to administer the LIEAP program for 2020-2021.

LIEAP, Low Income Energy Assistance Program, provides a one-time payment to help Buncombe County residents to heat their homes. These payments are made directly to the vendors and can often be a credit towards upcoming fuel bills during the winter months.

“This year LIEAP was particularly important because of the pandemic, says Susan Riddle of Eblen Charities. With so many people out of work or home with children out of school, the ability to help people cover the costs to keep their homes warm was vital. We were fortunate to have not only LIEAP, as we typically know it, but to have had additional funds distributed from the state to use directly for those over 60 that met the qualifications and received the assistance last year that. This money was so important to so many this past winter.”

For the 2020-2021 program year, Dec 1 to March 31, more than $1.1 million was provided on behalf of Buncombe County residents.
