Eblen Charities Newsletter June 30, 2021
Wishing everyone a safe and happy 4th of July holiday weekend!
2021 marks the 30th Anniversary of Eblen Charities!

Co-founded by namesake Joe Eblen, we are proud to have served our community for 30 years. Many do not know that the work of Eblen Charities began with fundraising for Cystic Fibrosis research.
A young father, who had participated in our events because his daughter suffered from Cystic Fibrosis, called to ask how he could access funding from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to take his daughter to Duke. The response Joe got from the foundation when he inquired was “No, we are sorry but all the funds raised go to research medications and hopefully someday a cure.” Understandably frustrated when told the news the young father replied “What good is medication if I can’t get her to the hospital to get it?”
Having the heart that he did, Joe paid the family’s traveling expenses himself but asked “Why are we taking money out of our community when there are people here who need it? “Why not just set up our own charity?”
30 years later, with numerous partnerships, events and community support, Eblen Charities provides utility, water, transportation, medical equipment, medication, housing, shoes and clothing for school age children, holiday meals and more to thousands of families in our community who otherwise would have no place to turn.
The Wicked Weed / Brad Johnson Celebrity Golf Classic

The Wicked Weed/Brad Johnson Celebrity Golf Classic, held Tuesday, June 15th at the Cliffs at Walnut Cove to benefit Eblen Charities was a huge success, raising much-needed funds to help those in need in our community. The spring golf tournament has been taking place for 32 years, raising funds to help families during the summer months, when there are few federal funds available. We are able to provide assistance with rent, utilities, medication and more.
We are grateful to Wicked Weed Brewing for being the Tournament Sponsor for the fifth year along with Brad Johnson, who has been supporting the tournament for the past 17 years! We also thank each of our Round, Corporate and Team Sponsors for their continued support.
