Applications Open February 22 for Second Round of Workforce Innovation Grants
WEDC — Applications will open February 22, 2022, for the second round of Workforce Innovation Grants of up to $10 million to local and regional projects that will help meet the state’s next-generation workforce needs, Governor Tony Evers announced today.

The Workforce Innovation Grant Program provides a total of $100 million to communities to develop groundbreaking, long-term solutions so businesses can find workers, workers can connect to jobs, and Wisconsin can thrive, Governor Evers said. In December, Governor Evers announced the first round of 12 Workforce Innovation Grant recipients, who will receive up to a total of $59.5 million.

"Wisconsinites are hardworking by nature — it’s in our DNA — so, with record-low unemployment and the lowest number of people unemployed in state history, we’re working to find creative, sustainable solutions to the most pressing workforce challenges facing our state," he said. "In the first round, this program provided critical funds to expand access to childcare for working families, increase opportunities for job training and reskilling, and foster entrepreneurship in communities. I look forward to awarding grants in this second round to projects that continue to tear down barriers to employment for workers across our state."
Up to $40.5 million in grants is available to promote local and regional solutions to workforce challenges.

Here are the 3 Developments Proposed for Sheboygan School District Land Near Field of Dreams
Sheboygan Press —  The Sheboygan Area School District will sell a parcel of currently undeveloped land to one of three developers.

The 25-acre property between Saemann Avenue, Geele Avenue and North Taylor Drive, across from the Field of Dreams sports fields, is owned by the Sheboygan Area School District.

The district put out a request for proposal for the purchase and development of the land in November and received three proposals — from North Taylor Development, LLC, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin, and Continental Properties Company, Inc.

The school board invited North Taylor Development, LLC, and Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin to give presentations of their proposals at a meeting on Tuesday.
North Taylor Development, LLC proposed senior living facilities, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin proposed a hospital and senior housing, and Continental Properties Company, Inc. proposed 288 multifamily apartments.
Mayor Sorenson Expresses Hope and Optimism in State of the City Address
Sheboygan Sun — Mayor Ryan Sorenson was optimistic about the city of Sheboygan’s outlook for 2022 and beyond in his State of the City address at Monday night’s Common Council meeting at City Hall.

Nearly 10 months into his first term as Sheboygan’s mayor, Sorenson reflected on a 2021 that saw significant strides in business, tourism and infrastructure.

He also noted multiple milestones for the city, including the first female majority in Common Council and the first time women have held both the Council President and Vice President positions. In age and diversity, Sorenson said the Council is more reflective of the community than it has ever been.
The mayor also mentioned the city's strategic plan, which will shape the next few years in Sheboygan and reminded residents to fill out the Strategic Plan Resident Input Questionnaire, which gives citizens a voice in deciding the city's future.
Bitter Neumann Celebrates 100 Years of Business
Sheboygan Sun — Today, Bitter Neumann is recognized as one of the area’s best appliance and furniture stores. When it comes to top brands in kitchen and laundry appliances, grills, furniture, mattresses and home accessories, Bitter Neumann has you covered.

On Jan. 17, 1922, Alfred Bitter Sr. purchased the Millersville general store, along with the two-story home behind it, for $15,000 from William J. Kohl. Alfred Bitter Dealer in General Merchandise carried groceries, hardware and household items.

In 1927, Bitter and his wife, Edna, formed a partnership with Roland Neumann and Walter Mueller, known as Bitter Neumann & Company. The building saw a 2,000-square-foot expansion in 1928 to allow more space for sheet metal works, water systems, milk machines and more. It wasn’t until the late 1930s that appliances were added to the lineup.
On Jan. 17, 2022, generations of the Bitter Neumann family toasted to 100 years of business!
