LOW CARBON FUEL STANDARDS (LCFS) WILL RAISE GAS PRICES IN WASHINGTON

The Washington State Department of Commerce today launched Regulatory Roadmap 2.0, the latest addition to a series of localized online portals designed to help ease the process of getting preliminary regulatory requirements satisfied for expanding or siting a new facility.

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM HORIZONS ECONOMIC BREAKFAST & PCEI REPORT
This year's Pierce County Economic Forecast was presented on January 15 at the Chamber's Horizon's Economic Forecast Breakfast. Some key takeaways include:
  • Income growth in 2020 is forecast to continue, with a 3.2 percent increase in total real personal income and a 1.2 percent gain in real personal income per capita.
  • Just about half of employed residents from Pierce County work somewhere else, and lower housing costs here may continue reinforcing the system of live here, work somewhere else.
  • An estimated population increase of more than 17,300 per year for 2019 and 2020 by the index “will continue to keep rental rates above an inflationary increase.
  • At the Port, for a variety of reasons, 2020 container volumes are likely to be significantly lower than forecast.

BRINGING COMMUNITY TO POINT RUSTON
Hundreds of people turned out to tour the new GenCare Lifestyle retirement home at Point Ruston during the open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

There are 159 units in the $55 million apartment building, and they currently are 20 percent pre-leased. The new GenCare facility will create at least 75 jobs in Tacoma — from nursing to administration, food services, and more.
