REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY

Join us in honoring the lives lost on August 3, 2019, at the Remembrance Ceremony and Public Art Memorial Unveiling on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. at Jim Crouch Park (7500 W.H. Burges). 

This special event will feature heartfelt remarks from Mayor Oscar Leeser, the Consulate General of Mexico in El Paso, and a tribute from Fort Bliss, culminating in the unveiling of the “August 3rd Memorial,” a beautiful granite installation by local artist Albert “Tino” Ortega.

The memorial, composed of seven pillars inscribed with the victims’ names, stands as a symbol of unity, harmony, and remembrance. Surrounding the installation are vibrant Palo Verde and blooming vegetation, with 23 lights shining bright in honor of those we lost.



We invite our community to come together, reflect, and pay tribute to our friends, neighbors, and loved ones. Let’s stand united in remembrance.

City Council Approves Resolutions to

Boost Community Programs

This week, the City Council and Mayor approved several key resolutions to support community programming. The resolution to amend the Subrecipient Agreement with the Better Business Bureau Foundation El Paso increases funding by $140,000 to enhance their scope of work and budget. Additionally, a new Subrecipient Agreement with LiftFund allocates $200,000 to administer ARPA Act funds for the continuation of the Interest Buy-Down Program, which benefits small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the resolution to amend the Subrecipient Agreement with Project Vida Inc. increases funding by $200,000 to expand their scope of work and budget. These actions demonstrate the city's commitment to fostering economic growth and community support.
