Ontario Government Pauses Commercial Evictions
This week the Ontario government passed the Protecting Small Business Act, which will temporarily halt or reverse evictions of commercial tenants and protect them from being locked out or having assets seized during COVID-19. The legislation applies to businesses that are eligible for federal/provincial rent assistance for evictions from May 1, 2020 until August 31, 2020.
Haltech Regional Innovation Centre Partners with Digital Main Street to Support Small Businesses
This week the federal and provincial governments announced a $57 million investment in the Digital Main Street program that will extend support to businesses across Ontario. Digital Main Street is a program that helps small businesses better promote themselves online and adopt digital tools and technology.

To carry out this effort in Halton Region, Haltech Regional Innovation Centre will partner with the Region of Halton’s Small Business Centre, local municipal Economic Development teams, Chambers of Commerce and local Business Improvement Areas to help small businesses get the resources and support they need to adopt digital technologies to compete now and in the future.

“I have heard first hand from some of our local businesses around the challenges they have had in dealing with the impacts of the pandemic,” says Mayor Rick Bonnette. “The funding from the provincial and federal governments is both welcome and necessary to support small business owners in adapting and leveraging technology.”
Sector-Specific Guidelines for Reopening
& COVID-19 Workplace Safety Plans
The Province on Ontario now has over 100 specific-sector guidance documents to assist businesses with reopening. Businesses are encouraged to use these guides as they plan to reopen.
