Meet the SEDA Vice President: Cody Block
A bi-weekly Student Spotlight

Cody Block, from Phoenix Arizona, earned a Bachelor of General Business in 2018, while playing football for Southern Miss. After graduating from the Economic Development program, he will work as a project manager for a construction company in Pensacola, Florida. Cody is engaged to Hannah Abrams, a USM soccer player. Cody has worked on multiple projects during his time at USM, including an economic impact study for the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport and the Mississippi Defense Diversification Initiative.
USM Research Park Offers Entrepreneurs Room to Grow

Submit Nominations for the 2019 Marsha N. Hamilton Spirit Award
Space
Mississippi Development Authority is seeking nominations for the 2019 Marsha N. Hamilton Spirit Award for Extraordinary Service in the Field of Economic Development.  Anyone who works in or supports economic development in the state of Mississippi, private or public, is eligible for this award. Members of the economic development community can submit nominations to any MDA Division Director. Nominations must be received no later than January 22nd. The award will be presented on February 7th during the MEDC 2019 Awards Luncheon.

Impact Study of the 2018 USA International Ballet Competition

The  USA International Ballet Competition  (IBC) takes place every four years and provides dancers from around the world the chance to perform before a jury of renowned experts. Thirty-six years since its inception, the USA IBC continues to grow and to draw the eye of the international community to Mississippi. Graduate Research Assistant, Mikhail Esipov, conducted an economic impact study using IMPLAN for the 2018 USA International Ballet Competition. The event generated an estimated $2.2 million of labor income and $416,491 in tax revenue for Mississippi. The event attracted 24,604  visitors from thirty-nine states with 3,334  international visitors from ten different countries.
