COVID-19 Relief Grant for Small Businesses

*Application deadline extended to January 13, 2021 at 11:59 p.m.*

The Governor announced the creation of a $500 million COVID-19 Relief Grant administered by the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA) at the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development. 

Grants, ranging from $5,000 to $25,000, have been allocated for small businesses and nonprofits that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This grant program is NOT first-come, first-serve; therefore, applicants are encouraged to take their time, gather all necessary documentation, and carefully review their application before submitting. The Economic Development Collaborative recommends that you follow these steps:

  • ATTEND: Virtually attend a California Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant Daily Webinar to discuss the grant program, eligibility requirements, the application, and who to contact for assistance. Click HERE to register for webinars hosted at 11a.m. on January 8, 11, 12, and 13.
  • APPLY: Once ready to apply, visit www.CaReliefGrant.com, and choose your appropriate language/county to view partners to apply through.
  • ASSISTANCE: For assistance, call

  • INFORMATION: Businesses and nonprofits will be selected based on priority key factors, including the following:
  • Geographic distribution based on COVID-19 health and safety restrictions
  • Industry sectors most impacted by the pandemic
  • Underserved small business groups 

Applicants are strongly encouraged to read through the FAQs and to work with one of the partners designated for Ventura County. Both EDC and WEV are among the partners identified for Ventura County and for working with Spanish speakers. You must apply through one of the designated partners.

California Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant Daily Webinars
The extended deadline for the Round 1 application window closes January 13, 2020 at 11:59 pm.
The State of California COVID-19 Small Business Grant Webinar will discuss: The Grant Program; Eligibility Requirements; What the funding can be used for; The Application; Required Documents; and Who to Contact for Assistance. Additionally, this is the first round of applications. Businesses that are not chosen during the first round have the opportunity to be chosen in the second. The second window of applications has not been announced yet.

What Changed with Death & Taxes in 2021?
A discussion on key elements of Proposition 19 passed in the November 2020 election. Learn about how Proposition 19 will limit the transfer of assessed values between parents and children/grandchildren, while expanding the ability for certain persons to transfer the assessed value of their primary residence to a replacement primary residence.
 
Provisions of Proposition 19 affecting transfers between parents and children/grandchildren will become effective for transfers of property occurring on and after February 16, 2021, while provisions regarding the transfer of base year values from one primary residence to another will become effective on April 1, 2021. The best way to keep our businesses open continues to be to:
  • Wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Self-isolate if you are sick
  • Practice physical distancing
  • Wear a clean face covering when in contact with others from outside your household
  • Avoid participating in group/private gatherings with others from outside your household (group gatherings continue to be a high-risk activity)
  • Make a plan to get tested regularly
