Waukee Secures Grant Funds for Revitalization

The Iowa Economic Development Authority awarded the city $100,000 to help transform a vacant building into a restaurant. The former Pin Oak building has been vacant for the past decade. Elbert Real Estate Group plans to revitalize and transform the space, which will fulfill a key priority from the downtown assessment completed last year.

Governor Announces Business Incentive Grants for Child Care

Governor Reynolds announced $5 million to support child care projects in Iowa. The Child Care Business Incentive Grant Program is intended to encourage employers to offer child care as a benefit to their employees.

City of Waukee Seeks Feedback

The City of Waukee hopes to better understand commuter experience and preferences of employees working in Waukee, as well as transportation options available at Waukee worksites. To begin the process of identifying and reducing transportation barriers, the City developed a commuter survey and worksite assessment. Waukee employers and employees are invited to help define preferences, options and issues by responding to the survey and assessment.

City Council approved a site plan for Casey's Marketing Company on October 2, 2023. The project includes the construction of a 4,570-square-foot, single story Casey's General Store located at 600 NW 10th Street.

On September 18, 2023, City Council approved a site plan for Kettlestone Central, LC. The project includes the construction of two 55,380-square-foot buildings that will each have six (6) basketball courts located within each building. The project is located south of SE Pleasant View Drive and east of Grand Prairie Parkway.

City Council approved a site plan for Stivers Iowa Real Estate on September 18, 2023. The project includes construction of a 34,150-square-foot, Ford Pro Service Center located at 1300 SE Stone Ridge Drive.

On September 5, 2023, City Council approved a site plan for The Quarter at Waukee, LLC. The project includes construction of a 2,180-square-foot, Starbucks located in KeeTown Loop.

City Council approved a site plan for the Greater Iowa Credit Union on September 5, 2023. The project includes construction of a 5,957-square-foot bank and retail building located at 1145 SE University Avenue.

On August 21, 2023, City Council approved a site plan for Sprout Property Company, LLC. The project includes the construction of a 7,896-square-foot, single story expansion to Kinship Brewery located at 255 NW Sunrise Drive.

City Council approved a site plan for the City of Waukee on August 7, 2023. The project includes construction of a 85,640- square-foot building to house the City of Waukee's Police and Fire Department located at 815 NW 20th Street.

Construction is wrapping up at Vibrant Music Hall in Waukee's premier entertainment district. The 36,000-square-foot concert venue will host its first concerts in November of 2023.

Construction is nearly complete on the 15,000-square-foot Hickman Retail Center located at 750 W. Hickman Road.

Construction continues on Apple's Data Center. The 315,000-square-foot data center is located north of Hickman Road between T Avenue and S Avenue. The project also includes a 63,000-square-foot administrative building and approximately 19,000 square feet of maintenance and network distribution space.

Construction is nearing completion on Hawthorne Pointe, LLC, a 11,550-square-foot multi-tenant commercial building located at 1450 SE University Avenue.

Construction is nearly complete on a Mister Carwash located at 555 E. Hickman Road. The project includes a 5,460-square-foot, single-story carwash.

Construction is nearly complete at Prairie Commons, a 18,900-square-foot retail building located at 505 E. Hickman Road.

Construction began on a 148,000-square-foot Target Store located at the corner of Hickman Road and SE Alice's Road in the Waukee Towne Center development.

Construction began on a 2,325-square-foot, single story Chipotle located at 425 E. Hickman Road.

Construction began on a 7,759-square-foot retail building, Central Plaza II located at 1165 SE University Avenue.


Construction began on a 4,455-square-foot McDonald's restaurant located in KeeTown Loop, Waukee's premier entertainment district.

Iowa Clinic-Waukee is constructing a two-story, 60,000-square-foot medical office building and surgery center located north of SE Tallgrass Lane and west of Grand Prairie Parkway.

Construction continues on UnityPoint Health-Waukee Medical Park. The 60,000-square-foot multi-specialty clinic is located on the southeast corner of Grand Prairie Parkway and SE Tallgrass Lane.

Construction continues on the 126-unit Aloft Hotel located north of Ashworth Road and west of Grand Prairie Parkway. This is the first of two hotels planned for Keetown Loop, Waukee's entertainment district.

Construction is underway on a new 6,500-square-foot Dupaco Credit Union located at the southwest corner of E. Hickman Road and SE Alice’s Road.

Next Phase Development, LLC is constructing two industrial storage buildings located in I-80 West Industrial Park. One building is 29,286 square feet in area and the second building is 29,244 square feet.

Construction continues on an Enterprise R-A-C. The project includes a 2,400-square-foot, single-story store along with a car wash located at 80 N Warrior Lane.

Coralville AAP, LLC is constructing a 5,970-square- foot, single story pet daycare, boarding and grooming facility located at 970 SE Brick St.

The Quarter at Waukee, LLC began construction of a 9,300-square-foot multi-tenant commercial building located in KeeTown Loop, Waukee's premier entertainment district. 

Gerber Collision & Glass is constructing a 14,221-square-foot building located at 950 SE Brick Drive.

Construction continues on Waukee Community School District's new 6/7 School located north of NW Douglas Parkway and west of NW 10th Street. The middle school building is 112,100 square feet with 36 classrooms.

Waukee Schools Natatorium is under construction at 1655 NW Douglas Parkway. The 62,350-square-foot building will house a pool to be used by the district’s Aquatics programs.

Construction is complete on a 10,614-square-foot, single-story Montessori School located at 605 E. Hickman Road.

Construction is complete on a 2,000-square-foot Starbucks Coffee Shop located at 1500 SE University Avenue.

Construction is complete at WCSD Trailridge 8/9 School located at 1455 NW Douglas Parkway.

Access Systems, Inc. moved into its new 33,450-square-foot office building located north of SE Olson Drive and west of SE Alice’s Road. Access Systems continues façade and landscape improvements to it's existing building located at 955 SE Olson Drive.

Quarterly Building Permit Report

The City of Waukee issued 479 building permits in the third quarter of 2023 (July -Sept). There were 128 permits issued for single-family homes, 139 permits for town homes, 10 commercial and 275 which fall in the “Other” category (signs, additions, fences, etc.). Total taxable valuation in the third quarter equaled $123.4M.
