2nd Quarter 2018
City's Sales Tax Revenues

Local sales tax revenue from the second quarter of 2018 (April, May, June) is $7.8 million, a 0.4% increase from last year's 2nd quarter total of $7.77 million. The increase is primarily due to a growth of 15.8% in the State and County pool allocations, 9.4% in Fuel and Service Stations, and 7.4% in Building and Construction. This increase was offset by a decline of 5.6% in Auto and Transportation, 2.5% in Food and Drugs, and 2.4% in restaurants and Hotels.

Auto Sales
A total of 1,616 new vehicles were sold in September 2018. New vehicle sales decreased by 3.8% from August 2018 and decreased by 12.93% from a year ago.  Additionally, 785 pre-owned vehicles were sold.
Thousand Oaks Unemployment 
According to the California Employment Development Department,  the preliminary  unemployment rate for  September 2018  is 2.8% - down from 3.1% in August 2018. The City has a total of 65,900 in the labor force with 64,000 who are employed.

Ventura County Unemployment
The California Labor Market report revealed that Ventura County's September 2018 unemployment rate of 3.7% was down from a revised 3.9% in August 2018.

A total of 2,000 non-farm jobs were gained in September 2018; however, 2,300 jobs were lost, for a net loss of 300 jobs. 

The loss in jobs includes:
  • 900 in leisure and hospitality, 
  • 500 in professional and business services, 
  • 400 in educational and health services, 
  • 300 in financial services, 
  • 100 in trade, transportation and utilities, and
  • 100 in construction. 

The gain in jobs includes 1,900 in government, and 100 in manufacturing.
