The impact of tourism on our economy...
Every $1M spent by visitors in Ontario generates 13 new jobs and $604,800 in wages. Tourism also represents the largest employer of young people, accounting for 23 per cent of the workforce aged 15 – 24.

In 2019, the Economic Development and Tourism Division supported 18 community events by providing $45,000 in grant funding.

The purpose of this grant program is to support festivals and events that serve to promote the Town to markets outside of Georgina, generate economic opportunities for the local business community and provide for the betterment of the community.

Do you have a festival or event idea that supports the development of local culture and community spirit through community led events, celebrations, or projects that will build on the local history, traditions, culture, and diversity of our community?

The next application review by the Economic Development Committee (EDC) is Feb. 1, 2020 for festivals and events taking place in the summer and fall of 2020.

Connors family fueling our economy with music for over 40 years
A vibrant music economy fuels job creation, economic growth, tourism development and strengthens a municipality's brand. Connors Music, a 2019 Mayor and Council Milestone award recipient has done just that.

Paul Connors and his wife moved from Sharon to Keswick to open a formal studio in 1978. They were drawn to the area as there was talk of upcoming development. And, they liked the idea of being close to the lake.

The business evolved over the years, moving to create more space, upgrading their recording facilities, expanding their programming and adding a retail showroom.

Eight full-time staff and 12 part-time staff are all for the most part former students. Known for their teaching, students drive as far as Richmond Hill to attend classes at Connors. Their adapted programming for people of all abilities and customized lesson plans for the little ones who are still learning how to read are some of the ways the Connors make music accessible for everyone.

Paul was never a fan of the rent-a-hall recital. Instead, he approached the Town to "shut down the street," so that he could have an event where his students would have a unique opportunity to showcase their skills. That was 24 years ago. "Music in the Streets" is now a well-known event that brings the community together and shines a spotlight on the musical talent right here in Georgina.

When called upon by local organizations and businesses for entertainment, the Connors have always been there. They are cultural influencers in our community; a kind and welcoming musical family who loves teaching - arguably their greatest achievement.
