New Seaway Veterinary Clinic Offers Special Care for Pets
Veterinarian Doctor Dylan McCaffrey is a lifelong animal lover who never backs down from a challenge.
This admirable claim to fame is why it's great news Dylan now has his own practice - Seaway Veterinary Clinic, a small animal vet clinic. He and his team launched the business last summer in the fully renovated former Parkdale Animal Hospital on the 2nd Concession on the outskirts of Brockville.
"I've wanted to be a veterinarian my whole life," says Dylan. "I couldn't picture myself doing anything else."
The clinic is accepting new patients and offers a wide range of services including surgery, dentistry, in-house laboratory testing, ultrasound and consults for behaviour, nutrition, wellness and more.
What sets this clinic apart from others is that they provide care for exotic animals. A quick peak at their social media shows some of their patients - turtles, snakes, bearded dragons, birds of all sizes, rabbits, and a wide variety of pocket pets like ferrets and hedgehogs. With a scarcity of vets and an even smaller number who treat these pets, they have clients who travel all the way from Bellville, they say.
Dr. Dylan is no stranger to the area. He grew up on a farm in Rideau Lakes Township. After graduating with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), he felt the former pet hospital location in Elizabethtown-Kitley Township would be ideal for his new clinic. The building has a long history of veterinary services dating back to 1980 - more than 40 years ago.
"We hear stories all the time from clients who remember coming with their parents with their pets, playing at the farm across from the clinic while their pets were treated. I'm happy we could reopen the building and continue the tradition," he says.
The new practice has a small team with one doctor. "Being a smaller practice we are able to know our clients and patients really well," says Danae O'Neill of client services.
Dr. Dylan emphasizes they appreciate being able to provide highly personalized service. "I enjoy getting to know our clients and their pets one-on-one, along with all of the unique challenges they can bring in the door," says Dylan.
Rounding out the team are Delenn Burrows, a DVM student graduating this spring, Marissa Massey, a vet technician, and Alyssa Aubé, a vet technician who also specializes in dog training and behavioral issues. She hopes to start puppy classes at the clinic soon.
Another focus for the clinic's team is on finding homes for rescued animals. They host cats at the clinic who are available for adoption.
