ROCKPORT - Proudly celebrating 65 years in international tourism in the quaint village of Rockport, the Heart of the 1000 Islands, is Rockport Boat Line.

Celebrations are taking place today aboard the Canada Spirit, the company's newest vessel and aptly named as this region is known in folklore as the "Garden of the Great Spirit."

The red and white "Proudly Canadian" Spirit is one of four in the company's fleet giving visitors and locals alike the 1000 Islands and St. Lawrence River cruise experience.

"We're most proud of our team of employees, who are wonderfully talented," says President and General Manager Kathleen Allen, adding the company's continued growth and success is due to its 150-member staff, including full-time and seasonal.

Many are long-time and even second-generation employees. Over 90% are local residents, ranging from teenagers to retirees wanting second or third careers. The company has a marine training program as well.

"Our staff retention rate is very high," says Kathleen. "Our professional management staff and organized team of employees have built a solid foundation of customer service and quality products, and we believe that they are our strongest asset."

The Boat Line, considered a world-class leader in tourism, has been growing steadily since its launch in 1954. Today, Rockport Boat Line each year attracts thousands of people from around the world.

"I travel around the world promoting our business but it's also about promoting this region," says Carol Sudds, Marketing Manager. Each year Rockport Boat Line hosts tour operators and media from Germany, France the UK, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Korea, Japan and China. Their onboard cruise commentary is available in 13 languages.

They are proud members of Destination Canada and Destination Ontario Signature Experiences. The company has earned many awards over the years.

More recently, Rockport Boat Line is a finalist in the Top Touring Experience Ontario Choice Awards.

The business includes the scenic tour operation, Rockport General Store, Island View Restaurant and Patio Bar, the Boathouse Country Inn and Boathouse Restaurant, Tiki Bar as well as the historic Cornwall's Pub.
