Custom Decor Celebrates 40
TINCAP - If you love beautifying your home, chances are you've worked with the Custom Decor Carpet One Floor and Home team.
This respected multi-generational family business is celebrating an amazing 40 years of operation. They install flooring for the entire home, window treatments, full kitchen and bath renovations, accents and the sale of Benjamin Moore paints to brighten all of your spaces.
"We have been the resource for change for most homes in Brockville and area for decades," says owner Matt VanderBaaren. "That's the pride we have in our business."
Matt took the reins from his parents, Ed and Jane, when they retired a few years ago. Ed and Jane first opened the retail business in 1983. They moved to the current location in Elizabethtown-Kitley Township in 1997, more than 25 years ago. Matt has been involved with the business since childhood. He spent time away training in many aspects of the home improvement sector and returned "home" full-time 14 years ago. Succession planning began soon after.
Matt is committed to keeping Custom Decor on the cutting edge with the newest in home decor options. Next month the County Road 29 operation will be launching its simplified in-store and online experience called Room by Room.
"This experience is going to take the difficulty away from finding the right product for your space," says Matt. "We're also here to answer any of your flooring and decorating questions."
Having good staff is also very important, according to Matt. "We have a fantastic team that is growing," he says, adding he is looking at expanding and hiring.
Flooring services include hardwood, tile, luxury vinyl and carpet installation. They provide full bathroom renovations including custom vanities as well as conversions to showers. Their large showroom has a large selection of showers, tubs, toilets, sinks and taps. To complete your room renovation, they offer window treatments as well. Custom Decor is an approved retailer for most large insurance companies.
Custom Decor is also known for its community involvement. Most recently, Matt has been involved with the Family Day Weekend Brockville Winter Classic, which last year raised $1.5-million. The Winter Classic group was formed 7 years ago to help numerous community projects and support small business.
"Brockville and Area has given us a lot of opportunity both in business and in community groups and engagement," says Matt. "We like to give back."
Learn more about Custom Decor by visiting their website and Facebook page, send them an email, call 613-342-8090 or visit their location at 3011 County Road 29 (Highway 29) on the outskirts of Brockville.

Artist Fiona Macintyre Shares her Digital Adoption Experience
Fiona Macintyre is an independent jeweller, designer and craftsperson who opened her Merrickville studio in 2017. The owner of Fiona Macintyre Design is a long-time participant in the Digital Main Street program, receiving the Digital Transformation and the Canadian Digital Adoption Program (CDAP) Grow Your Business Online Grants.
“I have been able to update my Point-of-Sale system here in the shop with hardware that I needed," Fiona said of how the grants enhanced operations. These upgrades have improved customer accessibility as well as streamlined the process of keeping Fiona's web shop up to date.
"I have also taken on some accounting software to help me out and hired a professional photographer to do photography that I can use on my website," she said.
Free hands-on support with a digital specialist has been beneficial as well, she said. "I have done consultations where I found out about social media marketing and website improvements. It’s given me confidence to take on a lot of these things myself and learn so I can continue with them going forward," she said.
| There is still time to apply for the $2,500 Digital Transformation Grant (program ends September 30th) and you can book a free consultation with the Digital Specialist to get you started on your path of upgrading your businesses online presence.
