BROCKVILLE - The Secureway headquarters is a hub of activity, with security operations continuously monitored and recorded across Leeds Grenville. “We’re nonstop, 24/7,” says co-owner Chris Strasser.
New AI and RVM (remote video monitoring) technology are changing the security landscape, and Secureway is at the forefront. The integration of CCTV and card access solar trailers, along with locksmithing services, provides clients with seamless, code-compliant security solutions. One of Secureway's biggest achievements over the past decade was bringing a central station back to Brockville, now serving as the only locally run central station in Brockville and the surrounding areas. This means that Secureway offers a one-stop-shop for security needs.
Beyond designing, installing, monitoring, and automating security systems, card access, and cameras, Secureway offers a range of extended services, including high-security key cutting and management. Various types of physical locks and security hardware are available for purchase, serving a diverse clientele that includes landlords, homeowners and commercial and industrial property owners.
The business, which is also a certified Medeco Security Centre (MSC) 1 of only 200 worldwide, has received awards of excellence for consistently delivering outstanding service. Medeco, a brand under ASSA ABLOY—the global leader in access solutions—provides advanced door security for healthcare, educational, commercial, and government facilities.
Secureway is culture-driven; its employee base is like family, and they strive to serve customers to the best of their ability. The company has grown from its early days with Chris, Phil Lawson, and Kevan Bradley to a fully staffed 24/7 enterprise. The Secureway brand itself was developed by Chris and Phil, with a strong emphasis on ensuring both customer and staff success. Employees are valued through extensive training and are equipped with the tools needed to succeed, fostering both client satisfaction and personal fulfillment in their work.
“Trust is everything. Customer service drives all of our decisions,” says co-owner Phil Lawson, who also serves as the Fire Prevention Officer for Augusta Township. Personalized service is a top priority, and much of Secureway’s success is rooted in word-of-mouth from satisfied customers. “We install both simple and complex systems the right way,” Chris added.
Like many businesses today, Secureway faces challenges in finding skilled professionals. “Certified service technicians and locksmiths are hard to come by. If we could find the right people, we could double our project capacity,” Chris admitted. To address this, Secureway is open to hiring individuals with little experience. “We’re happy to invest in someone who’s dedicated to learning and staying local,” he said.
This year marks Secureway’s 10th anniversary. “We’ll be celebrating with clients, employees, and friends this summer,” Chris shared. He added that one of the greatest advantages of running a business in Leeds Grenville is the strong network and close connections developed over time. Hard work pays off. Clients trust Secureway to help them feel secure, knowing that when the need arises, they can count on the company to be there.

Lynn Laming-Kerr to be Receive Lifetime Achievement Award | |
|
TOLEDO - Lynn Laming-Kerr, long-time owner of Kitley Grocery & Service Centre in Toledo, will be receiving the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at this years' annual International Women’s Day celebration on Thursday, March 6th at the Brockville Memorial Centre.
For over 36 years, Ms. Laming-Kerr’s Kitley Grocery & Service Centre has been a staple in Elizabethtown-Kitley. Known as a welcoming hub in the village of Toledo, Lynn and her husband, Peter, continue to provide essentials such as fuel, propane, frozen foods, hand-crafted breakfast, lunch, and snacks to go, beverages, lottery tickets, and more. The store became an LCBO Liquor Convenience Outlet Operator years before the recent expansion of retail liquor sales.
"I was 19 when I started with the store. I came to help provide for my family, but then it changed as the community became my family," Lynn said.
Lynn has been a member of the Legion for 25 years. “We are a very close community; we support schools and churches, and the community supports our business. We stay connected by being there and staying present for our customers,” she says.
Kerr-Laming leads a team of employees that have consistently served with a commitment to customer engagement and breaking down barriers. “Everyone is welcome here,” she added. Her efforts have created meaningful connections and fostered economic opportunities in the region. In 2021, the store was the top entry in the “Grow Your Business, Love Your Lifestyle” video promotion.
“Lynn's success and dedication is to be commended as she has demonstrated the importance of female leadership in small business while balancing the needs of her family and supporting her community. Lynn’s commitment and longevity has attributed to her accomplishments and gained her the admiration and respect from many in the region," said Corinna Smith-Gatcke, Warden of Leeds Grenville.
“I am absolutely thrilled for Lynn. I can't think of a more deserving recipient for an award such as this one. Kitley Grocery & Service Centre has become a well-known and long-standing fixture in the Township thanks to her tenacity and leadership, along with her unrelenting dedication to customer service and a friendly atmosphere. In a time when so many village stores have become relics of the past, Lynn's establishment not only lives on - it thrives! She genuinely loves her community, and the community loves her.”, said Brant Burrow, Mayor of Elizabethtown-Kitley.
Lynn is the 12th business leader selected for this coveted award, that recognizes women who have been in business for over 20 years and has demonstrated hard work, community contribution and resilience.
