Economic Update - August 2018
Greetings!
Last week, I had the pleasure of participating in a ground-breaking ceremony for another new housing development in the City of St. Charles called the Villages of Sandfort Farm . This announcement is part of a larger story that is taking place in St. Charles . That story is, home builders know we are a great place to invest.

Think about all of the new subdivisions that have been started or expanded just over the past few years:  Villages of Provence , New Town Gateway, New Town Phase 10-B, Residences at Streets of St. Charles , River Crossing Apartments and many more.

These announcements demonstrate St. Charles is still a premier place to start and grow your life. From our highly rated schools and special amenities; families recognize St. Charles represents the best part of the St. Louis region.

Equally as important is the diversity of our housing stock. From apartments and villas to single family homes…St. Charles has the right house for your needs. We are proud of this city’s vibrancy and appreciate so many families want to be a part of our community.

Regional Investors Breakfast Hosts Record Crowd
The City’s Economic Development Department once again hosted its annual Regional Investors Breakfast in mid-June to the largest crowd ever in its 22 year history. The event was held at the Scheidegger Center on the campus of Lindenwood University .

" The program theme was 'Pivot' and highlighted that we are using our current success strategy to expand our impact in terms of business recruitment, workforce and site/building promotion,” stated Economic Development Director David Leezer .
“Our goals were to demonstrate our department's ROI in the region and to recognize the city's growth is a result of the partnership of everyone in attendance.”
Leezer used that as an analogy on how the department's "pivot" will improve it's effectiveness and expand its vision. He outlined a few new missions the department will be focused on which include:

  • Expanded outreach to site selection consultants
  • Introduction of a cutting edge pre-qualified site initiative called “Qualified Sites”
  • Unveiling of a new Lindenwood University Career Fair program in September
  • Launch of a new local retail recruitment effort

If you missed this year’s Regional Investors Breakfast, you can still watch it in its entirety on YouTube .
Over 400 members of the region attended, representing a vast array of industries and public entities.
Lindenwood University Head Basketball Coach Lance Randall opened the presentation.
Qualified Site Sets City Apart from Competition
In an ongoing effort to separate the City of St. Charles from would be competition, the Economic Development Department announced the creation of its Qualified Site program. The program showcases key shovel ready sites that have been certified and stamped by two leading engineering firms.

The sites, located in Fountain Lakes Industrial Park, have been qualified by Bax Engineering and SCI Engineering . All marketing pieces showcase each firm’s official stamp.

Each company did an exhaustive review of key industrial sites and include reviews for Phase I Environmental, Seismic Site Classification, Wetlands, Slope, Zoning, Surface Soil Types and much more.

“This is truly a game changer for us,” stated Economic Development Director David Leezer . “To promote a property that has been certified and stamped by two leading engineering firms sets us apart from our competition.

"Third party verification increases the validity of a site. Site location consultants should take notice when they see the sites have been pre-qualified by two highly respected engineering firms. These initial reviews should save industries time and money,” Leezer stated.

Momentum has a way of capitalizing on itself and in economic development, it is our partners across the state, working as one team, that make the difference when we work to attract companies to invest and create jobs in Missouri.

According to an article in Site Selection Magazine , if America needed an example of what can happen when a state overhauls its business climate, works together at all levels, and makes it friendlier to growing firms, it received that lesson in a big way in early March. And that lesson came from Missouri.

In less than a week, four companies announced Missouri as their choice for major corporate facility investments, bringing $350 million in capital and about 2,300 jobs to the state, including many to the St. Charles region. (read more)
