Customer Experience
A topic of discussion at our quarterly meeting focused on the issue of Customer Experience and Client Support. This topic got us all thinking - what do we do to help our clients and what can we improve on? Where do we succeed and where do we fall short?
Our focus has always been to assist our clients in meeting their needs, being responsive and helping to find solutions to problems or requests. What we all agree on is that we want to do our best to support our clients for them to be successful , but what we hope to improve upon is reaching out and extending the offer to help with services. These may be either services our clients know we provide or something they might not even think to ask if we do. We are a very team-oriented group - we work together, coming up with ideas or solutions that can help our clients so if you have been thinking , " I need help with something ," please feel free to reach out to either your sales or project manager! We are happy to see if we can help meet your needs! Also, if you have any thoughts on either what we excel at regarding customer service or what we should work on, please just let us know - we would love to hear from you!

The Next Generation Science Standards in the US
The goal of those who collaborated on the NGSS movement was to have these standards embraced by at least a majority of the states. To date, only 15 states have officially adopted the NGSS, according to Liana Heitin of EdWeek.org.
Perhaps states are hesitant to adopt a 'national' set of standards after experiencing how political the Common Core State Standards became, or maybe they simply like their own set better. The pattern that I have seen over the years though, is states will evaluate their current set of standards against the NGSS and then as their review cycle for their science curriculum comes due, they will update their standards by infusing the NGSS to create a more well-rounded, and possibly more robust, set.
States that have adopted the NGSS, will implement them as their official set usually within one to four years, allowing time for districts to adapt their curriculum and develop new assessments. For example, Oregon adopted the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) as the new Oregon 2014 Science Standards in March, 2014, but full implementation is not expected until 2018-2019 school year. Another example is South Dakota, who modified the climate section of the NGSS a bit, and then adopted them as their own state standards in May, planning on implementing them in the fall of 2017. On a more aggressive approach, California adopted in September 2013 and went right into full implementation fall of 2014.
It certainly will be interesting to watch these NGSS standards evolve not only as a national set, but how states incorporate them into their own standards. EdGate will be following this journey!

Keeping Physical Education Affordable
The Cooper Institute launched FitnessGram in 1982; it remains the standard fitness assessment tool of the President's Challenge. However, School officials cite budget cuts as affecting their ability to provide PE opportunities, according to a February 2012 report by the US Government Accountability Office.
With the basic idea that "all children deserve access to physical education opportunities, US Games has partnered with the Cooper Institute and is committed to providing the OPEN curriculum free of charge to all school districts throughout the country."
The Online Physical Education Network curriculum is National Standards and Outcomes focused and currently includes games and modules for locomotor and manipulative skills, ball games, fitness knowledge and personal and social responsibility for grades K-2 and 3-5. Middle school and high school PE modules are planned for 2016
The OPEN 1-Million is a group of districts and educational agencies that support the OPEN mission and will provide OPEN training to their elementary physical education teachers in the 2015 calendar year.

Need More Than Common Core
If you, like many publishers are coming to the realization that schools and districts are no longer satisfied with content aligned to Common Core standards only and are putting pressure on you to align your content to state-specific standards, we can help!
Our experts will use sophisticated technology developed by EdGate to create a crosswalk between your existing correlations and all of the other U.S. State standards.
There are several benefits to how we can help:
- Your original alignments stay in-tact and your efforts do not "go to waste";
- Your alignments carry over, maintaining the integrity of your work;
- Mapping can be performed from third party alignments, not just correlations done in-house;
- Mapping can be performed for other standards and subjects besides Language Arts and Math;
- EdGate experts can review to ensure alignments are thorough and cover all states and grades;
- You save time and money from not having to align state-by-state;
- You have the option for other standards from the EdGate repository;
- You can have all of the U.S. States (and more) within 90-days; *
* Turnaround time for most projects is quoted "up to 90 days", however is dependent upon the amount of content.
