Day of Giving: A tradition before Day of Thanks
The Elmsford Union Free School District once more rolled up their sleeves and got to work during the traditional Day of Giving on Nov. 24 this year, the day before Thanksgiving. Each year students engage in a number of community service projects, some focusing on their schools and others on the community.

Generous donation will help children stay warm this winter
With temperatures dropping as winter approaches, the Elmsford Union Free School District will be distributing winter coats to students in need thanks to a generous donation by the Y Service Club International, Westchester County chapter.

Congratulations to our Boys Varsity Soccer: NYSPHSAA Class C State Champions!
On Sunday, Nov. 14, the boys soccer team beat Maple Hill 1-0 to become state champions!

A closer look at the DNA of a strawberry: Regeneron Day of Doing Good
Students at the Alice E. Grady Elementary School not only learned about strawberry DNA but conducted an experiment to extract it from the berry thanks to the generosity of some volunteer scientists. On Oct. 22, volunteers from Regeneron participated in the “Regeneron Day for Doing Good.”

Diwali at Dixson
The fall season is awash with holidays and seasonal traditions! Recently, the students at Carl L. Dixson Primary School were introduced to a special celebration: Diwali. 

A look at science at Hamilton
During the Nov. 3 Board of Education meeting the science curriculum at Alexander Hamilton High School was put under the microscope during a presentation by Department Chair Rich MacLeish and Principal Joseph Engelhardt.

AHHS Theatre presented “The One Act Play that Goes Wrong”
This November, AHHS Theatre returned to the auditorium offering audiences a comedic respite.

If you noticed an abundance of ghosts, ghouls and goblins, with some police officers, princesses, video game characters and angels walking through village streets it could only mean one thing: The annual Elmsford Union Free School District Halloween Parade!

Reading inspires senior to share the joy with Lending Libraries
If Kathleen Praino, a senior at Alexander Hamilton High School, is not reading, she is suggesting books to her friends and encouraging them to put down the video games and pick up a book. This fall, she installed two Little Free Libraries, one just outside of the Carl L. Dixson Primary School and another outside of the Alice E. Grady Elementary School.

District scores a slam dunk with inaugural Hall of Fame induction
A decade-long effort finally came to fruition last month when friends and family gathered in the Alexander Hamilton High School auditorium to celebrate athletes and teams of the past. A group of former athletes, coaches and teams became the first inducted into the new AHHS Athletic Hall of Fame.

Rachel Newman selected for Staples “Thank A Teacher” award
Rachel Newman was recently honored with the Staples third annual “Thank A Teacher” award, having been nominated by her classroom’s teacher assistant, Silvana Zambrano.

One apple + two apples = APPLEPALOOZA!
When math teacher Andrea Cleveland’s voice came over the public address system telling students at Carl L. Dixson Primary School that there was “math and apples everywhere,” that could only mean one thing: it was Applepalooza Day!

AHHS welcomes old and new friends for ‘Start with Hello’ week 
During their lunch period, AHHS students wrote positive messages to their peers on hand-shaped cutouts and then taped them to a paper “tree” hanging on a cafeteria wall. This was one of many activities during Start with Hello Week, sponsored by Sandy Hook Promises. 

Backpack Donation helps students have what they need 
It was a busy day at Carl L. Dixson Primary School on Friday, Sept. 24. Not only was it the monthly Fitness Friday, but students had the added bonus of going home with a new, donated backpack full of school supplies. 

A walk with Dad for ‘Dads Take Your Child to School Day’ 
Helping hoist on backpacks, holding hands crossing the street and sharing warm hugs were all part of the morning routine for fathers on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021 as the Elmsford Union Free District participated in “Dads Take Your Child to School Day.”

Play ball! Work on athletics fields continues
Athletic Director Robert Pollok has taken a ride down memory lane, in a way, researching the Elmsford Union Free District’s athletic history. His research has shown that the Alexander Hamilton High School athletic fields date back many years and were in need of some updates. Construction on the high school athletics fields, began in June, continues with new drainage and more.

Welcome back! EUFSD students have started a new school year
The skies were grey, but the smiles brightened up the day as students, teachers and staff members made their way into the schools for the start of the 2021-2022 school year. 

Superintendent’s Welcome Back message kicks off a new school year 
Superintendent Marc Baiocco addressed all staff members of the Elmsford Union Free School District during the opener of a three-day Superintendent’s Conference meeting. His address to the school community was held virtually.

EUFSD welcomes new staff at the New Employee Academy
The first day of a new job can often be overwhelming. However, administrators in the Elmsford Union Free School District helped to make new staff feel welcome and ready for their new roles during the New Staff Academy.

District plans ahead with new goals during strategic planning meetings
On Tuesday, August 24, a group of teachers, administrators, staff, parents and students gathered in the library at the Alice E. Grady Elementary School to explore ways to improve student outcomes. The three days of meetings were facilitated by Sean Brady of Prism Decision Systems, who has worked with the district for more than 10 years.
