Powerful message about mental illness and addiction used to inspire students
In honor of her late son, Stephanie Marquesano has been diligently working to prevent another family from experiencing the heartache of losing a child. To that end, she founded the harris project, bringing awareness about co-occurring disorders, or COD, to high school and college students. COD, as Ms. Marquesano explained, refers to the relationship between mental health and addiction issues. On April 30, she brought her message to students at Alexander Hamilton High School during an assembly.
Mad Science visit to Grady proves science is silly and fun
If second graders at Alice E. Grady Elementary School learned anything from a visit from a scientist with Mad Science, it was that science is anything but boring. Science is actually about fizzing water, smoky haze and corks popping out of bottles. It’s loud, messy and mad!
Kindergarten and first-grade students at the Carl L. Dixson Primary School sang, danced and discussed their love of hats during the annual drama performance. The “Hurray for Hats” production included several vignettes, all with hats as the main theme.
Two staff members honored with American Dreamer Awards
Jo-Anne Dobbins, Director of Special Education & Pupil Personnel Services, and Rachel Newman, Special Education Teacher at Alice E. Grady Elementary School, were recognized for their work of coordinating a unique collaboration between Grady and the Tappan Hill Elementary School in Tarrytown.
The evening of June 20 was a special night as AHHS students enjoyed their prom. Students gathered at the high school for photos and to board the buses that took them out for a night of dining and dancing.
The end of the school year can be a transition for many. High school seniors move on to college or jobs, sixth graders head to Alexander Hamilton High School and first graders move up the hill to the Alice E. Grady Elementary School. The end of the year can also signal change for staff too. This June, three familiar faces spent their last weeks in the district transitioning into retirement.
It was an evening to leave the cleats and mouthguards at home and celebrate the achievements of the Alexander Hamilton High School star athletes at the Varsity Awards Banquet.
Members of the Alice E. Grady Band and Chorus hit the road on May 17 when they traveled to the Theodore D. Young Community Center in nearby White Plains.
The wet, dreary weather outside in no way dampened the competitive spirit of students inside when the Alice E. Grady Elementary School Field Day was held indoors on June 21.
