AHHS Class of 2023 told to “enjoy the ride”
| |
The wind caused many graduates to hang on to their mortar boards, at least until the very end when several of them were tossed into the air and taken by the wind to land haplessly on the field.
The toss and subsequent carry-away all added to the party-like festivities of the 2023 Commencement Ceremony held on the Michael Arciola Field at Alexander Hamilton High School on June 21.

Grady sixth graders move on up | |
It might be tough to determine if there were more people or balloons packed into the gymnasium at the Alice E. Grady Elementary School. Both the people and decorations helped to create a celebratory atmosphere as the school’s sixth graders were celebrated as they continue their educational journey on to middle school during the June 21 Moving Up ceremony.

Dixson first graders soar into second grade | |
In a series of four ceremonies, families gathered on the front lawn of the school to see their special first grader celebrated for their hard work and received well wishes for when they move on in their academic journey to the Alice E. Grady Elementary School next year.

Congratulations on your retirement! | |
During the June Board of Education meeting, the procedures were paused as the board and Superintendent took a moment to recognize those who have long served the district and will be retiring at the end of the school year.
Among them are Alexander Hamilton High School Computer Technology Teacher Hector Hernandez and Dixson Teaching Assistant
Linda Maselli and Carl L. Dixson Primary School Principal Jeffrey Olender.

Best friends shared spotlight as the Class of 2023 Valedictorian and Salutatorian | |
Seniors Helen Oliveros and Megha George have been best friends since they met in kindergarten. They’ve laughed and cried together and attended one another’s events in support. On June 21, they shared one more moment together — taking the stage as the Class of 2023 Valedictorian and Salutatorian at Alexander Hamilton High School.

Signed on the dotted line … athletes commit to play collegiate sports | |
It was with a sense of determination that three Alexander Hamilton High School senior athletes signed on the dotted line in a symbolic commitment to continue their athletic careers next year. The students were surrounded by their families, friends and coaches as they received congratulations.
Signing their letters of commitment on June 6 were Miguel Gonzalez, who will be participating in track and field at Iona University, Christopher Harper, who will be playing football at Western Connecticut State University and Tiago Vargas, who will be playing soccer at SUNY Purchase.

Award season: Grady and AHHS celebrate student achievement | |
Grady students and staff showed their amazing supportive spirit during the “On A Roll” celebration on May 25! As each recipient was announced a cheer of “yeah!” echoed throughout the gymnasium, where the entire school and special guests had gathered. The event honored students from grades 2 through 6 with special awards including “Academic Achievement,” “Academic Excellence,” “Citizenship” and “On A Roll.”
On June 5 students at AHHS had their turn during the annual awards ceremony where 120 middle and high school students were presented with certificates in Math, Science, English, Social Studies, ENL, Modern Languages, Choir and Band and more.

It is always time to B.E.A.R-Be Excited About Reading at Dixson! Students and families had a great opportunity to do just that during the annual Build A Reading Buddy event held on May 18! Families gathered for a fun night of stuffing a plush friend, adding in some special magic, selecting a book to bring home and more! These new plush pals were created to encourage families to read together and help students feel more confident when they read on their own! | |
AHHS students served on the Westchester County Youth Leadership Task Force | Alexander Hamilton High School student Angela Mathews (bottom row, first from right) was recognized by County Executive George Latimer at a May 15th meeting of the Westchester County Youth Leadership Task Force. The meeting provided an opportunity for the County Executive to thank the students for this year's activities in preventing youth substance use, and hear the students' perspectives on vaping, alcohol, marijuana, and other substance use. Jaleah Nichols also represents Alexander Hamilton High School on the Task Force but was not able to attend the meeting. | |
Thank you to the PTSA for hosting the 1st Annual Family Fun Night | |
Rain, lightning and even some hail did not dampen the spirits or spoil the night for students at the Family Fun Night at Alice E. Grady Elementary School on Friday, June 2. They enjoyed fun with friends and special treats on the Grady lawn, on the playground, and in the school cafeteria. Parents purchased raffle tickets for special prizes, including autographed photos, gift cards and generous prize baskets, while the children snacked on popcorn, snow cones, hot dogs, Indian-inspired foods and more! The games, vendors, snacks and raffles were provided by the support of the Elmsford Parent Teacher Student Association. | |
It was a beautiful night for some music outdoors when the Grady Band, Alexander Hamilton High School Choir, Grady Choir and the AHHS Band entertained a crowd of friends and family for the Spring Concert! Thank you to Grady Band Director Michael Webb, AHHS Choir Director Dawn Zampell, Grady Choir Director Christopher Funke and AHHS Band Director James Walton for putting together a wonderful musical event! | |
