Dixson students find reading is a lot more fun with a buddy
Lions, unicorns and monkeys, oh my! There was a small menagerie of plush friends at the Carl L. Dixson Primary School, and they had a very important job to do. These adorable animals were created to encourage families to read together. They also served as a pal for students to share their reading adventures with.

It was a special day at the Grady School when Southern Westchester BOCES students from the Tappan Hill School visited in early January, joining Rachel Newman’s class for a morning of fun. It was the first joint class the school has hosted.

Holiday concerts let Elmsford students spread holiday cheer

Musicians and singers at the Alice E. Grady Elementary School kicked off the holiday concert season on Dec. 11, with their band and choir performances, followed later that day by a districtwide concert. On Dec. 19, Carl L. Dixson Primary School students entertained family and friends with their annual Holiday Show.

Several staff members at the Alexander Hamilton Jr./Sr. High School participated in No Shave November, sporting a new look for several weeks in order to raise money to fight cancer.

Students at the Carl L. Dixson Primary School witnessed democracy in action as they went to the polls to vote on which activity they wanted to enjoy during Wacky Game Day, which was to be held in January.

Friday, January 18 was an Inauguration Day of sorts at the Carl L. Dixson Primary School. Students were having fun playing “Move it, Move it,” a selection they had voted for back in November.

On Day of Service, Alexander Hamilton students give back
|
During the annual Day of Service, Alexander Hamilton Jr./Sr. High School students packed food baskets for local families, made dog biscuits for a local shelter, organized a trail cleanup, volunteered at a local firehouse, played songs for young students and prepared items and letters for military service members.

Scholastic Book Fair at Dixson is a welcome transformation

The Carl L. Dixson Primary School art room was transformed into a book shop, but instead of paper, paints and brushes, students found tables and shelves of books for sale as part of the biannual Scholastic Book Fair.

Students in kindergarten and first grade at the Carl L. Dixson Primary School teamed up for a holiday season snowman-building project that let them collaborate around literature and STEM subjects. Teachers called the team project a big success.
