EddyVision: It's all go for our biggest remote, autonomous and digital aqueduct inspection to date. We are delighted to have recently signed the contract with Scottish Water for the final and main phase of the Talla Aqueduct inspection and expect to complete the project this year.

The Talla Aqueduct is 45km long, from the Talla Reservoir in the Scottish Borders North to Edinburgh, providing a critical supply of water for nearly half a million people. It is split into a series of different sections with 34km of approximately 2m to 3m diameter gravity flow sections. These sections were last inspected in 2009 in a costly and high risk human entry inspection.

The requirement for continual supply now combined with reducing the overall cost and risks associated with human entry led to us leading a remote and autonomous digital inspection trial of the final 2km in 2019 together with our partners Abyss Solutions. The results were well received and were mentioned in the Scottish Government's 2020 Hydro Nation Annual report (see page 6).

Since then we have carried out over a year of preparatory contract work planning for the full aqueduct inspection including site visits, access planning and practise runs scoping the full aqueduct with video only inspections.

We are delighted now that the final go ahead for the full digital runs, supported by Abyss Solutions again, will soon be up and running.

This week's very short EddyVision clip is of David Brady from Abyss Solutions presenting on the "Platypus" equipment used and some of the outputs it generates. Watch it HERE.
