The Eagles' Call!
Edgewater High School Community Brief
Monday, July 27, 2020

Over the past week, we have fielded more parent phone calls than any other week in my four years as principal. And, I have to say it was great!

Yes - I said it was great! When you decide to leave the classroom and move into school leadership, you leave behind a bit of the personal interaction and you trade it in for system development, policy implementation, and decision making in aggregate.

You lose some of the personal touch. This week allowed us the opportunity to get into the weeds with you about decisions best for your child, help with formulating schedules, etc.

These conversations were refreshing because we could be of service to you and entrusted with our best advice for your child.

Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure everyone's safety, we are moving our annual Freshman Frenzy, originally scheduled for July 29 in the cafeteria, to a virtual platform. We have asked our faculty/staff sponsors to work with our TV production teacher so we can produce a video that will provide our freshmen families with great information about our clubs/sports/activities. We expect to push this out to everyone the first full week of August. Thank you for your understanding and stay safe!

Edgewater community footnote: The chart immediately above from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows how the cost of getting a college degree in the U.S. has risen almost 1,200% in just 40 years. During that same time, overall inflation is up 230%. This is one reason why it is so important that our college bound Eagles take a close look at the excellent material Dr. Mulfort, Edgewater's College and Career Specialist, has prepared for the Class of 2021 - "Welcome to Senior Year" (We also believe many of our underclassmen and their parents will find it equally interesting!)
