Strive for progress, not perfection.
Monday, May 31, 2021
Edgewater HS Community Member,
I am very excited to join the faculty and staff of this wonderful community hub and I look forward to meeting many of you as we transition to our new year. Dr. Shanoff has done exceptional work here for the last several years and I know he will be missed at Edgewater and in OCPS as he moves on to big things!

My focus will be to continue the strong results at Edgewater through high expectations for excellence in academics, sports, visual and performing arts and extracurricular clubs and activities. Over the summer we will be hard at work planning and preparing for continued success in the 2021-2022 school year. Stay tuned to the Edgewater HS website for information, including dates for Freshman Frenzy and Meet the Teacher events. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like additional information about our school.

Go EAGLES!

Meet Principal Kreider!
Personal biography for our Edgewater Community
Edgewater Eagles, I am humbled by the opportunity to lead this school in the great work that is taking place. So that you might know a little bit more about me and how I came to this position, here is a little background about me.

I have been an educator for sixteen years beginning with my first position teaching Algebra 1, Geometry and AP Statistics at Olympia High School. After teaching for nine years, I returned to school to earn a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and stepped into an instructional coaching position at Evans High school where I provided support for teachers and students in all levels of mathematics instruction. For five more years I continued to serve the students and faculty of Evans High School as Assistant Principal and Assistant Principal of Instruction, overseeing Mathematics, Performing Arts, Career and Technology Education, Exceptional Student Education, Student Services, Testing and school grade accountability.

When I am not at school, I can be found spending time with Brett Kreider, my husband of 28 years, or reading a book, or solving logic puzzles. Brett and I have three sons, Ian, David and Gabriel, who are all grown and graduates of OCPS schools, where we spent countless hours watching Pop Warner football practices and games, band concerts, Friday night football games with marching performances (two percussion and one trombone), school plays, lacrosse games and much more.

I look forward to connecting with families and students through the summer and into fall as we forge ahead into the 2021-2022 school year. We will keep you up to date with the latest information right here in The Eagles' Call! and through the school website (edgewaterhs.ocps.net).

Rising juniors and seniors! If you're interested in joining NHS next year and have the required GPA (3.5 weighted and 3.0 unweighted), please note that the application timeline is being moved up! Students meeting the GPA requirements will be invited to join September 1st with applications due September 22nd.

Since the timeline is earlier, consider using the summer to get your required volunteer hours! Rising juniors need 20 hours logged with their guidance counselor, and rising seniors need 35.

Research Study
Edgewater High School is participating in a research study to get a better understanding of why more high school students are not applying to the University of Central Florida. Current studies show that high school students are facing barriers, such as the cost of higher education, low scores on the SAT/ACT tests, and a host of other barriers. The information from this study will help policymakers, colleges, and universities, and funding agencies to target the identified needs to make college more accessible for high school students.

They are specifically looking for students who have already applied to college. The links below are for parents to give consent for their child to participate in this study and also for the student to agree to participate in the study.

Once permission is received from parents and students, the link to the survey will be provided to students. The survey has 16 questions and should take approximately 20 minutes to complete at home this summer.

If you have any questions concerning this study, you may contact the investigator at jmartin58@my.nl.edu.
