Eagles, we are nearly halfway through our summer months and it’s time to pulse check where we are. Our summer students have completed over 200 courses in credit recovery. Calculus Project students are also accelerating their learning through applications of physics with campus experiments and looking at potential careers in mathematics!
Academic Focus this Issue - Seniors' Corner
The academic focus for this issue of The Eagles' Call! is on our rising seniors. Are you on track for graduation? Take time to review your GPA, your requirements for ELA and Math assessments and remaining credits. Are you college or career ready? What is your plan? Reach out to your counselor or Mrs. Leis if you have questions about this. Did you know that there is a strong correlation between hours of practice on the Khan Academy Official SAT Practice platform and SAT score improvement? Shoot for at least 20 hours of practice time this summer to see a significant increase. For those reaching for increased scores for Bright Futures and other scholarship opportunities, now is the time to work on those improvements. The college application window will be in full swing early in the school year and you want to be ready to hit the ground running.
If you need a concordant score for graduation and missed the summer ACT or SAT sign up deadline, stay tuned for the 21-22 test dates and registration windows to open in early July. The first SAT for the fall to be offered at Edgewater will be Saturday, August 28th and the first ACT will be September 11th.
Check out the Senior Instagram page at edgewaterclassof2022 for up to date information for all things senior class related. Senior picture codes for Leonard’s Photography went out to all parents at the email address we have on file. Look out for those and get your session scheduled! Senior parking is open on the school website under student>student parking. Parking spot painting days will be August 7th and 8th.

Welcome to Our New Assistant Principal - Mr. Berkes!
Please welcome new assistant principal, Scott Berkes, who is joining the Eagle’s Nest. Mr. Berkes has jumped right in and is a welcome addition to the team. Here is a little bit about him:
My name is Scott Berkes and I am the new Assistant Principal at Edgewater High School. I have heard a lot of great things about the culture at Edgewater, and am very excited to join the team. A little bit about myself, I was born and raised in Pennsylvania, and attended college just outside of Pittsburgh where I played baseball and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education.
|
|
Clarion University in Pennsylvania where Mr. Berkes earned his undergraduate degree.
Over my career as an educator, I have been an English teacher at both the middle and high school levels, been an athletic director, coached basketball, golf, baseball, and bowling, and most recently have been an Administrative Dean in OCPS for the past 3 years. While working as a teacher I returned to school and received a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. In my free time I like to play golf, relax, cook, and travel with my wife and our pet dog, Jax. I look forward to joining the Eagle family, and am ready to get to work and have a successful school year. Go Eagles!
Continue to balance work and play and take care of your mind, body and spirit so you can be ready to ROCK the 21-22 school year with us. We are pumped to see everyone back on campus!
As always . . . Go Eagles and SOAR!!

PTSO
Mid Summer Break Update
|
|
Live for today but plan for tomorrow.
This pretty much sums up your PTSO! Your board and committee members are enjoying their summer but still meeting, planning and creating the items and activities that help our students, families, staff and community feel valued and connected to Edgewater High School.
We’re excited to show off new Spirit Wear at Freshman Frenzy on August 4, and looking forward to hosting a Back to School lunch for teachers and staff on August 5. We have two fall fundraisers on the calendar, a website refresh in the works and lots of ideas that may, or may not, see the light of day.
But in the meantime, we plan on enjoying all that summer has to offer and hope you do too!
Mindi Rackliff
EHS PTSO President
