Dear Mark,
Eagle families, it is hard to believe that we are only two weeks away from closing out the first half of the 2023-2024 school year! Please read through this issue and review all the photos that capture exciting learning opportunities for our students. It is magical when teachers are passionate about what they do, and students are engaged in the learning environment.
We had our Quarter 2 "It's Poppin'" Parent/Teacher conference event and it was a success! Please remember that if you are not able to attend parent/teacher conferences physically, there are other ways to generate communication with teachers about your child's success. Talking Points has become one of the most useful platforms for two-way communication between parents and school faculty. Please make sure you have a parent account established for Skyward so that you can track your child's grades and attendance in real-time. If you are struggling with this, please don't hesitate to let us know and we will help.
This week we have two special holiday concerts for you to attend if you are looking for fun entertainment and something to get you in the mood for the holidays! Our amazing orchestra will perform Tuesday at 7:00 in the PAC and then our band will perform Thursday at 7:00 in the PAC. These special events show off the wonderful talents of our students and should not be missed! Also on display in the lobby are works from our visual arts students for you to see. On Tuesday, our School Advisory Council (SAC) will meet at 6:00 pm in the ARC. We would love to have your input at this brief meeting each month. Please consider joining us.
Over the next two weeks, we will have important testing events taking place. Biology and US History will be administering their PMA 2 assessments beginning tomorrow. On Tuesday, we will operate on a modified bell schedule to accommodate our Grade 9 and Grade 10 students as they take their FAST PM2 assessments. These important benchmarks allow teachers to gauge the support needed for each student to prepare for their end-of-year assessments. Please make sure your child attends, is on time, and has a charged laptop. During the final week of the semester, we will run a modified schedule to accommodate the semester course final exams.
Thank you for reading and I hope we will see you around school for some of these events. Have a great week!

The Green Team recycled old music sheets to make paper-mâché Christmas tree ornaments at their club meeting this week. The creative fun was enjoyed with delicious homemade sugar cookies, holiday music and a roaring virtual fireplace.

Our girls weightlifting team visited Windermere High School Wednesday night where our fighting Eagles devoured the Wolverines, soaring off with a final score of 47 in the Olympic lifting category and 53 Traditional lifting category. Several girls took home 1st and 2nd place in their weight categories and set new personal records. With this win our girls are excited to take on Olympia High School this Wednesday, December 13. Spectators can join us in BLDG 12 to watch our Eagles take off for another victory.

I/ITSEC Modeling and Simulation Conference
Students from the EST magnet program representing Modeling and Simulation, Engineering, Robotics and Computer Science were inspired while attending the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC). This is the world's largest modeling, simulation and training event. Students gained hands on experience with virtual reality, simulators, gaming, and drones. They were able to drive tanks, fly F35, F16, perform medical procedures, experience Computer-Based 3D graphics, Flight Simulators, Convoy Trainers, SCORM, Information Technology, Advanced Distributed Learning, Aerospace, Communications, Public Safety and most importantly, network with over 452 companies.

I/ITSEC is organized and sponsored by the National Training & Simulation Association (NTSA), which promotes international and interdisciplinary cooperation within the fields of modeling and simulation (M&S), training, education, analysis, and related disciplines. The NTSA is an affiliate subsidiary of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA). Hence, I/ITSEC also emphasizes themes related to defense and security.
Ms. Toney's Research Class
Below are pictures from Ms. Toney’s 'TED Talk Tuesdays.' The class has done this twice this year and watched the TED Talks, Where Joy Hides and How to Find It and what Does Wealth Mean to You? so far. Questions are written on masking tape on the tables. Students respond using dry erase markers on the tables and rotate around in a gallery walk manner. They wrap up with a discussion about the responses they read.
