The Eagle's Call!

Edgewater High School Community Brief

Monday, December 4, 2023

Dear Mark,

Eagle families, we are closing in on the end of semester 1 and time is of the essence. We have three weeks until the last day of quarter 2 and the start of winter break. Please monitor your children for consistent attendance, timely assignment submissions and truly studying and practicing material ahead of tests. Completing practice assignments after a test does not help the learning process or boost the grade. It is the content mastery shown through in class participation, good note taking and study habits, quizzes, tests, and projects that will determine the outcome.

We have our quarter 2 "It's Poppin'" parent/teacher event this week. Please attend Wednesday, December 6th, from 1:30 - 2:30 for quick check-in with as many teachers as needed. As always, if you have deeper concerns than can be addressed in this setting, I encourage you to reach out to student services for more support.

As we reach this point in the year it is the habits students have developed that will be a large part of determining their success. As Atomic Habits author James Clear states, we don't rise to the level of our goals, we fall to the level of our habits. Let's work on automating the supporting behaviors that will allow our students to achieve excellence.

Have a great week and thanks for reading.

Rotary Tip-Off Classic Championship: Edgewater 53, Dr. Phillips 44

Congratulations to our boys basketball team (5-0) on winning the 2023 Tip-Off Classic vs. DP's Panthers Saturday evening! Below is an earlier Orlando Sentinel article leading up to Saturday's championship game:

Excerpt from the Nate Marrero Orlando Sentinel article:

For a young but talented Edgewater boys basketball team that’s looking for senior leadership, newcomer Zion Mitchell rose to the occasion.

Mitchell went to the foul line with the score tied at 59 with 6.7 seconds left and made one of two free throws. That proved to be enough as a defensive stop by the Eagles (3-0) sealed a 60-59 win over Kissimmee Osceola (0-2) in the quarterfinals of the Rotary Tip-Off Classic at Winter Park High School.

“He’s a true point guard, but he has the ability to shoot the ball,“ first-year Edgewater coach Jon Mason said of Mitchell, who scored 25 points. “He can score and he truly is a leader. We’ve just got to continue to build game after game and just get better.”
