The Eagle's Call!

Edgewater High School Community Brief

Monday, January 29, 2024

Dear Mark,

Eagle families, Edgewater High School is the PLACE to be! Our magnet programs are strong and thriving with over 100 folks in attendance at our magnet informational night last week. Ms. Hinds Cruz and Ms. LeVere presented all about what our magnet programs mean for students and families, and the outlook is robust! If you have younger children or friends considering our magnets, the application window closes on February 15th. Check out the OCPS Magnet website at https://www.ocps.net/departments/school_choice/magnet_programs for the entire process overview.

Our Lady Eagles soccer team defeated Oviedo and will proceed to the District final game against New Smyrna on Tuesday at 6:00 pm at Lake Howell High School. Come out and support our Eagles!! Stay tuned to socials for additional sports information posted by AD Josh Vandergrift.

Progress report grades will be locked in on February 7th. This is the midpoint snapshot of all grades your student is earning. Please make sure you are closely monitoring their grades and attendance in Skyward. Parent partnership is critical to student success! Our next It's Poppin' parent/teacher conference event is scheduled for Wednesday, February 21st. Mark it on your calendar if you can make it out to check in with your child's teachers. The It's Poppin' event is held during the last hour of the teacher contract day as with any parent/teacher conference. If you feel a deeper conversation is needed, please reach out to our student services department to set up a full conference. I will remind you of the logistics as we get closer, but parking for the event is in the Par side parking lot, past the security booth. Parents are asked to wait until 1:30 and then enter the campus through "Bamboo Alley", which is the sidewalk lined with bamboo between Building 2 and the loading bay. The other gates will be locked and we ask that you do not try to enter campus during dismissal. We will have a table at the bamboo alley entrance for check-in.

Students reaching their goals is our top priority. We know that goals do not manifest without hard work and dedication. In the education world, we create what we call SMART goals for ourselves, teachers, and students. These are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-related. Ask your student to set one SMART goal with you this week. Have them build it in just this way with the five components of a SMART goal and help them monitor progress. Every program on our campus has goals set to move the needle steadily, with measurable progress. We have improved every metric year after year and will continue this with daily basics and habit-driven behavior. Let me know how your goal setting goes!

Thanks for reading and have an excellent week!

Eagle Resilience in Action!

Girls Soccer team demonstrates how resilience pays off large.

In a stunning turn of events, the Edgewater Eagles Girls soccer team, against all odds, defeated the once unbeaten Oviedo Lions in a thrilling semi-final match 1-0, securing their place in the District Finals. Despite being considered the underdog throughout the tournament, they showcased remarkable resilience, teamwork, and determination, ultimately outplaying the favored opponent.

The victory not only shocked fans but also proved that with dedication and belief, even the most formidable adversaries can be overcome. Mackenzie Daley scored what proved to be the game winner! Lily Strange anchored the Eagles in goal with a SHUT OUT!

Now, the Eagles prepare to face New Smyrna Beach in the 6A R2 D5 District Finals on Tuesday, January 30th 6:00 PM at Lake Howell High School.

Bravo Lady Eagles . . . your effort vs. Oviedo is a classic example of resilience in action! Good luck vs. New Smyrna Beach!!
