Edgewater High School Community Brief

Monday, October 12, 2026

Edgewater HS Community Member

We had a unique experience during our Homecoming week. Things had to be adjusted, schedules flipped, and events moved around due to a multitude of factors. But we persevered and had a great week here at the Eagles Nest. Our EHS Guitar and Orchestra students had fantastic performances this past week, and the rain did not stop us from winning our football game against Olympia or from having our first-ever Night at the Nest in our gymnasium. Speaking of Night at the Nest, I am so proud of Georgia Stuart and our SGA students for being able to pivot when Mother Nature came their way and still bring joy to so many people who came out to celebrate Edgewater.

As we transition into the fall season, the changing weather reminds us that change brings new opportunities for progress and reflection. Similarly, the transition from the first to the second quarter of the school year marks an important milestone for our students. With the foundation now set, we expect to see meaningful academic and personal growth across our Eagle community this next quarter.

I invite our families and community partners to stay actively engaged with our students—whether that means checking in on their weekly progress, encouraging strong study habits at home, or supporting our school events. Together, we can ensure every Eagle has the resources and encouragement needed to strive for excellence throughout Quarter 2.

In Eagle Pride,

Dr. Jackson

Student Spotlight: Celeste Perdomo-Martinez

From Celeste:

“I am in a band called Physalia. This band started with the drummer(Hannah) and the bassist (Celeste) in 8th grade science class. We started in a garage the size of a shoebox with low quality instruments and a duct taped microphone. And now we play big stages, get great offers and are soon to be releasing an EP. We are an Eastside Emogaze band who takes influence from Jrock, punk, emo and shoegaze. We focus our music and lyrics around emotions that people feel but are too scared to say aloud. We are an outlet for people to laugh, cry, sing, and dance to. Celeste is the bassist/backing vocals, Myles is the rhythm guitarist/vocals, Lucas is the lead guitarist and Hannah is the drummer.

Our shows are mainly on weekends! our instagram is @physaliabandfl and you can find updates on our music as well! Consider supporting your local band and local music scene/community by sparing $5-15 to come out and see one of our shows! We love to see new, and familiar faces. Hope to see you there.”

Quiz Bowl

Our Quiz Bowl team has competed in two competitions so far this year and has placed 2nd both times. Our next club meeting is Oct. 16th after school in 3-107 and our first home competition is October 26th!

Eagles in Service during Homecoming Week

ICC kicked off HOCO week with a highly successful multi-club neighborhood clean-up! Over 70 lbs of trash was collected along Edgewater Drive along sidewalks, local businesses, and front areas of campus! We had an excellent showing of students from the following Clubs:

● Key Club

● K-Pop

● Sports Analysis

● Interact Club

● SGA

● Fishing Club

● Pilates

● Mentorship Club

● Green team

● Asian student union

● Edgewater Socratic Society

● Book Club

● Battle of the Books

● National Honor Society

Trash was sorted with well over over two hundred plastic bottles and aluminum cans going to RECYCLING instead of the landfill!

Academics: Week #9

Math Blitz

Juniors and Seniors participated in the SAT Math prep, Math Blitz, with Mrs. Black and Mr. Speights. The nearby images are of the students participating in an activity called Scavenger Hunt. They solved math problems and their answers lead them to the next problem located around the room.

AICE Marine Science - The Rainbow Salt Lab

Recently in Mrs. Daniels AICE Marine Science class, students participated in the Rainbow Salt Lab, a hands-on investigation that helped them understand how salinity (the amount of salt dissolved in water) affects density and how these differences create layers in the ocean. Students learned about solvents, solutes, solutions, and how salt dissolves in water before exploring how varying salt concentrations change the density of water.

Caralyn Campbell, Ashlyn Strobeck, and Madison Rampt

During the lab, students prepared five colored saltwater solutions containing different amounts of salt. They carefully layered the solutions into a beaker, creating a colorful "rainbow" effect. The layers remained separated because each solution had a different density. The saltiest solutions were the densest and settled at the bottom, while the solutions with less salt were less dense and stayed above them. Just like the colored saltwater layers in their beakers, ocean water forms layers based on differences in salinity and density.
