Dear Marine parents,

The mission of MarineParents.com, Inc., is to provide support, information, and services to Marines and their family members, and create opportunities for the public to support our troops through the organization's outreach programs.

OPSEC is a critical component in the Marine Corps. PERSEC is also important, however it is not a critical component. It is important to understand the differences between OPSEC and PERSEC, and you can learn about those differences in our first article.

In this newsletter, meet a volunteer and a Team Marine Parents participant, view the different What's After Boot™ Facebook Page, and learn how you can plan a Luminary event.

God bless and Semper Fi!

OPSEC vs PERSEC

Do you know the differences between OPSEC and PERSEC? It is important to remember that the safeguarding of our own personal information (PERSEC) is a choice that we make. While safeguarding the information of the Marine Corps operations (OPSEC) is required by the Department of Defense.

Team Marine Parents (TMP) is a group of individuals, generally parents, family and friends of Marines, who participate in athletic events nationwide to support our troops. The mission is to raise funds and awareness of the organization's outreach programs.

Our featured TMP participant this week is Penny Terwelp. Penny is running the Marine Corps Marathon for the second year. She wants to continue to honor those who have protected our freedom.

What's After Boot: Facebook Groups

Facebook group members have "a Place to Connect & Share®" while their Marines are at School of Infantry (SOI). This is another way to bond with other Marine parents, family members, and friends. We encourage you to join your Marine's SOI Group to meet up with other Marine family members. Semper Family!

Plan a Luminary Event

You can choose to participate in the Gold Star Luminary Initiative as an individual, you can invite friends, neighbors, and coworkers to be involved, or you can host an event on a community-wide scale. Church groups, book clubs, and student clubs are great ways to spread the word about your event.
