Two education commissions, each convened for the last two years, have generated legislation for consideration this session. This week, counties joined with many stakeholders to have their say on school construction reforms, and some initial steps in K-12 operating funding priorities. County elected officials emphasized their own priorities and goals for improving education facilities and outcomes, as part of the public bill hearings. Both bills are expected to receive attention and likely pass in the weeks ahead - as only two weeks remain until the legislature's "crossover" deadline.
