Education Opportunities
[ S.C. Sea Grant Consortium - May 1, 2020 ]
Dear South Carolina Educators,
This week's animal-themed quarantine inspiration comes to us in the form of some amazing amphibians. Aquatic species of frogs like the leopard frog pictured above often spend the winter at the bottom of ponds and lakes. Not to be outdone, the terrestrial spring peeper takes its hibernation a step further. If they get extremely cold, these frogs can survive being frozen solid! To keep ice crystals from causing tissue damage, spring peepers' elevated levels of blood glucose act as a natural antifreeze. But don't be like a spring peeper and freeze up; hop on these education opportunities from the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium and its partners!
