Dear Friends,

Pearson Field Education Center is off to an impressive start this year. For the second year in a row, we were awarded a donation from iQ Credit Union employees as part of their iQ for Kids program. This donation provides three full and six partial scholarships for deserving youth to attend PFEC summer camp. Much gratitude to iQ Credit Union employees for their ongoing support!
Summer Camp Open Registration
Exciting new programs that are filling up fast. Camp begins July 16 th .   The world of science, aviation and engineering comes alive in at Pearson Field Education Center’s Summer Camps. Campers create things that fly, explore historic aircraft and fly our flight simulators. We offer three brand new programs. Scholarships are available for those in need. Your child won’t want to miss a moment of fun!
Youth Volunteer of the Quarter
Ivan Degner, former president of PFEC's Aviation Explorers, is a senior at Skyview High School. This fall Ivan lead PFEC’s Leaf Challenge team to a 3 rd place victory at Seattle Museum of Flight. As a volunteer Ivan not only assists with education programs and hangar maintenance, he also mentors younger volunteers by encouraging them to behave in a professional and helpful manner. This fall Ivan will attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida where he plans to pursue a degree in aerospace engineering and participate in ROTC. Ivan plans to join the Air Force to become a pilot.
Field Trip Season
As the school year comes to a close, PFEC is busy with field trips. We will see over 650 students before the end of the school year. In addition to introducing a new program that aligns to national learning standards, we are pilot testing a brand new preschool program that includes airplane story time, making wind socks and completing an airport scavenger hunt. Thanks to a grant from Vancouver Energy, PFEC has been able to provide field trips for free to Title I schools and Head Start programs.
Youth Volunteer Corps

Members of the Youth Volunteer Corps which began in January, have contributed a combine 254 hours of service to PFEC during Open Saturdays. The group recently toured Life Flight and Van’s Aircraft at Aurora Airport to learn about careers in aviation. Members will attend Alaska Air Day at PDX in May to help promote PFEC programs and learn about career opportunities in their community.
